Tyres

Postby adrian » Mon Feb 09, 2004 8:43 pm

Hi all,

Wanna get 2 back tyres for the car. Where's the best place to get good quality (F1, Pirelli, bridgestone etc) tyres in DUB/IRL??

Wonder is up North better?

Look up McManus tyres in the phone book - they have a place in Drogheda and Dundalk and are open for fitting/balancing on Saturday mornings. They do a good cash only price.

Just yesterday I ordered 2 Toyo Proxes 205/50x16 from eiretyres.com. The cost was €116 each (incl delivery) - I think that's a good price.

Best tyre I've ever had - brilliant in the wet. To get a better tyre you'd have to spend close to €200 and even at that the difference would be tiny. They have a wicked tread pattern too.

Yeah, Toyo T1S Proxes are great tyres, I would also recommend Goodyear Eagle F1s, slightly more expensive than the Toyos, but they have better wet grip than the Toyos IMO. Fitting will cost you €8-10 per corner.

Is there as big a difference in performance as there is in price when you go up to the Pirelli PZero type tyre range??

Rear wheel drive at 240 BHP, I want something great

IMHO no necessarily - if I were you I'd be looking at what other drivers are recommending - the Eagle F1s and Toyos get recommended a lot. I can personnally vouch for the Toyos and found them to be very stickey in wet and dry.

Ever since the toyo proxes came into use nearly 5 years ago i have never used another tyre, i waited months for them to come into use on the car i had before the fto, and they were worth the wait. the best aroung IMHO.

I rang McManus Tyres in Dundalk yesterday - that's where I got my Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3s (205/50 ZR16) the last time. They can get them into stock with a day's notice and the cost per corner including fitting is Euro115.
That's even cheaper than what I paid - though I got mine when they were just being launched.

Cash only

They also have a place in Drogheda, where I'll be going the next time, though I haven't checked the prices there yet.

I've heard that the F1-GSDs are grippier than the standard F1's, v. good price there Eamon BTW...
