FTO Stolen

Postby d_dan » Fri Jul 01, 2011 9:39 pm

Hi Everyone,

A shell of my FTO (AKA Mr. bishi's) was stolen from Moate Co. Westmeath
Between Monday 27/06 and Friday 01/07

The car has been stripped to a degree and is missing its boot lid and front bumper, engine and gearbox. Most interior parts have been removed.
The car is easily recognisable as it is sprayed Suberau Blue with a black roof.
Any help in getting this back would be much appreciated.
My number is 083-3855025

Regards,
Dan

An old picture of the car is posted below

You sure it didn't just rust away?

Sorry couldn't resist :-)

Was there much left on it? unlikely it was stolen parts is it?

If it was in a public place, might be worth contacting the council.

Theres a good few dodgy heads going around with trucks picking up cars and getting €150 or so from equally dodgy metal recyclers. Anyone looking for body parts would just remove what they needed rather than going to the hassle of transporting it

Just aswell you took all those expensive parts off and sold them so before it got nicked it could have been alot worse.

Interesting alright. Surely no point in bothering to lift and take the car unless someone is just planning to crush it. Find out any / all of the car recyclers / scrapyards within 100km of you and phone them all in the morning sounds like the advice.

I had a couple of lads with flatbeds ring the doorbell looking for me to "donate" the legnum or sell it to them for an even hundred - they're driving around looking for cars that haven't been moved or look like they're surplus to requirements and selling them for scrap/recycling.

I managed to sell it properly before they nicked it - but I have no doubt in my mind that that is what would eventually have happened had I left it in the drive for much longer.
People are desperate enough to nick gates, roof tiles, phone lines, powerlines and insulators.. it'll be fillings next!

If you've ever walked into a building that is a disused hospital or asylum or anything like that and saw what they took you'd be shocked. People strip everything from rads, copper pipes, and roof tiles and slates, to stairs and the metal studs used for partitions.
They call themselves scrap metal dealers, but they are known as another more common term which I'm not going to mention here.

Was it a few bits and pieces of your actual car? If so, sounds more like it could have been dismantled for parts. How many dismantlers in Ireland actually fully dismantle cars and stock the parts? I think Traynors up North do this.

Any others known?

I presume you've checked donedeal, gumtree, carparts.ie, all the sites people would sell parts on? Ebay even?

they have the wing's
I know its the car as they are an unmistakable suberau blue with mitsi logo repeaters.
I have been keeping my eye out more watching the smaller stuff like buy and sell etc. for pictureless adverts.

Will keep an eye out Dan, at least you had the engine and some of the other nice bits removed already.

Horrible thing to happen though.

Bit sickening to know people are out there going so far our of their way. Like you had to go through. 3 fields to get to it let alone drag it out.

Glad you found the culprit Dan. Unbelievable how people will just take something from someone else's property on an assumption! I'd have been doing well to be restrained if it happened me!

Thread closed. Didn't see the point of it in the first place, got boring reading one person contradicting another.

The OP would want to grow up a bit.
