That would be mine! Just stuck it up out of curiousity to gauge price more than anything else. For €2 on donedeal why not! Ive got a total of 3 calls and 0 viewings. All from Dublin mind you... But on a serious note, once i get it NCT'd i'll probably have to sell her... Bit inappropriate for work it appears. And cant afford to run 2 cars.
Or if anyone wants a good deal on a GPrV in need of a new cat would even suit me better!

Got a new job Bernard and its a bit of a step up for me now. Im already very young for it and theres been comments about 'boy racer car' around that arent doing me any favours. The boss even commented on having it the car park of the hotel!! He 'IMPLIED' it didnt look well for guests arriving (never actually said it though) Very OTT if you ask me but its their persception. And unfortunately its in my best interests to take it on board... Especially at this point in my career. They're not forcing me to get rid of it or anything but i know its frowned upon.
It is annoying though. I love that frickin' car and just got her more or less perfect. Its a sickener!

Its also discrimination, in your contract does it say you cant drive an FTO? Does it say you have to drive a certain car to give a certain image to clientelle? And I had this problem in my last office, the senior partner used always being going on about boy racers and implying I was one, well I was on my way home one day travelling at the speed limit on the South link, (which is 120kmph) and he flew past me in his Audi, so next time he said anything I mentioned that, and then more people started saying 'oh ya you're lethal on the roads (boss's name)! So turned out, like a lot of cases, that the senior executive types driving lexus, merc, bmw, audi, are more of a 'boy racer' than an actual enthuasiast.

it is discrimination in a way, but to be fair if you're looking to progress in a company you need to make a good impression, not just to the customers. My employers don't have a major problem with my car, but I know that if I ever went to meet a customer in it they wouldn't be too impressed. I can see where the hotel are coming from.

For example, if I was a goth outside of work hours, there's nothing they can really say about that if it doesn't affect my work, but I'm sure it would go against me in some way. it wouldn't be a sackable offence, but I wouldn't expect to be promoted too often.
(It sucks that you may have to sell it though, after all this)

So if you drove in tomorrow mornin in a Ferrari would that also be frowned upon. I would get rid of the noisy exhaust and hold onto the FTO. You have hardly had time to enjoy it.

I think it's ridiculous that your manager thinks he/she can dictate to you about your choice of car. What in particular is their issue with the car, is it a loud exhaust system disturbing guests or what? I wouldn't consider the fto to be a boy racers car, not in the same terms as a micked up saxo etc. Clearly your manager is impressed with your work as they gave you a promotion. out of curiosity what would they prefer you drove.... toyota prius, smart car

Yeah, shouldnt be a problem... Actually it would be interesting to know how they'd react to a meet down there. I dont think they'd mind if it was business in the hotel. Cant really justify that myself but as long as there'd be no messing.. I dunno.. I wouldnt have to tell them what it is!

And as I said though, they're not forcing me to get rid of it. Its not just the exhaust either cause most people havent even heard it yet. Its the fact im a young male, white car with a spoiler and alloys... Thats is more or less peoples common criteria for a boy racer, regardless of any truth in it.

Yeah, shouldnt be a problem...

We should organize something.
It'd be interesting to see if their perception would change if your car brought them some business...

I've gone to numerous site meetings, as the lead of the design team, representing client and the company I worked for, and have once or twice been called a boy racer, but you know what, laugh at them, tell them what a boy racer is, tell them what you are, show them you are totally unphased by there name calling, the only time someone gets affected by name calling is when they think they are actually that, if someone called you a green martian would you get offended? No, why? Cause you know that you're far from a green martian. So show them that you know damn well that you are far from a boy racer, if they see it doesnt affect you and you can laugh it off then they feel stupid for calling you that. Basic physcology, but if you think about it, its the truth.

I'm sure there are some B&Bs nearby Laura.

Who cares what the management are like anyway, we're only staying there, not moving in with them  If they're any way professional, they'll treat you with the courtesy and friendliness you deserve as their guest.

It's not as if they gave Chris an ultimatum, or even implied his job was at risk because he had the FTO. Let's not get too hysterical on another persons behalf.

This does seem a little confused to me. The management of this establishment are trying to bully one of our members, so we reward them by collectively spending a large amount of money in this establishment. That really gonna teach them a lesson

I'd be of that way of thinking.

Of course they didn't offer up an ultimatum or they'd find themselves in court. They made their thoughts very clear though, my way or no way, otherwise Chris's car wouldn't be for sale right now.

The owner of my company hasn't a clue about cars but still told me car was cool the first time he saw it.

Maybe the sight of a few fellow fto car enthusiasts may change his/her mind and outlook on the kind of "cars" that are in there minds "not fitting in with the look of the hotel" and if its bringing in profit for the hotel its a plus for them.

Fatboy I refer you back to your My car's been threathened thread, and quote from it below.

Always happy to put a controversial spin on things –it seems to me that you have attracted unwanted attention from the local youths, and you have attracted unwanted attention form management –In all my time owning an FTO -several years, I have never experienced either –I think you will find the same from most if not all members here. Are you sure the problem is not with you, and the manner in which you drive and behave in, around and relating to the car?

Can you clarify a point for me regarding the job? When you say that you’ve gotten a new job, are you with the same employer/hotel, and have been promoted? Or have you moved to a new employer completely?

If it’s the former then I do not see that the car is holding you back as you have been promoted (despite the car).
If you have moved to new employer then you may well be right in seeing the car as a hindrance. However I fail to see the employers issue. At the rate hotels are going out of business, you’d think they’d be happy to have any car in the car park –if only to make the place look busy. As regards image, (chav, boy racer, medallion man, hairdresser ,whatever) it is merely a car parked in a carpark, the brand or image of the hotel matters to management only in so far as how it is perceived by their clients. Do you think the clients –Joe Public et al – could care less? It’s not as if they would even know it’s a staff car. Unlike sales or business development roles where you are meeting clients and have to look ‘smart’ with your company mondeo, I fail to see managements issue with the car.
Perhaps you are taking their words of jest far too seriously, perhaps you are too thin skinned, and are making an issue out of nothing?
Saying all of the above, if your choice of motor, is actually impeding your career, and assuming that either are of any importance to you, then it’s time to prioritise and drop one of them.

This is really getting out of hand. I have NEVER been told I have to get rid of the car. What has happened is that a couple of comments have been made, both by staff and management, implying im a boy racer. And its been in a slagging way more than anything else really. As I said, right now I want to focus on my career so I'm prepared to change car. Im not saying I wont have another fto in the future, but right now I cant afford to keep two cars. Obviously I want to keep the car but part of me actually sees where they are coming from, surprisingly. I think the kicker is the fact its white... If it was just the one person to say it I wouldnt care, but its been a good few people. Im still up for a night down there with pints etc, just let me know if theres interest for a session.
