Replacing manifolds

Has anyone replaced the manifolds before? Is there any advice / info on how best to go about it?

Replace the nuts and bolts while your doing this as they are going to be pretty much welded on

Super, I sorted the gaskets and managed to replace the dreaded RPW manifolds back to standard ones. I just need to fit the downpipe and new exhaust system. My next question, if anyone knows the answer or where I find out, is what size nuts will fit the downpipe where it meets the manifold. The auto shop gave me the wrong size, I tried some 19mm but at a guess id say it's more 20mm. If anyone knows, it would help, cheers

Do you have the original nuts? Otherwise just pick up a couple of different sizes and return the ones you don't need.

No, the downpipe and manifolds that I took off were not standard. I dont really know we're they were from but they have been nothing but a drama. I've replaced the manifolds with standard used ones from a breaker and bought a new aftermarket downpipe. I just need nuts to fit the bolts that are already in place on the manifolds

Good stuff.
If you don't mind me asking - what was the problem with the RPW manifold?

The whole exhaust system was a complete hash job. I couldn't fit the new system to the down pipe because there was no flange, instead a scaffold pole had been clamped to the downpipe and this then led to a back box consisting of two 90 degree bends which then led to a rage back box. I couldn't get a downpipe to fit the manifolds anywhere so I just put everything at the manifold end back to standard and was then able to fit the new stainless steel system. It runs so much better now, like a FTO should!

The next thing I'll be doing is cleaning the underneath and waxoiling it. Then I'll be putting it back on standard springs. Its been lowered on apex springs with 18" alloys but it rubs on full lock on the front

Andy. My advice is to get it professionally sealed. Mustang here did a DIY underseal and while the effort was comprehensive, the job wasn't. You only have to miss a bit of rust here and there for it to become a nasty cancer and spread. The underseal on my gpx was done in 2010 i think (the thread is on here). It would have failed the next nct i'm sure. It's done properly now and I can relax. I would say a diy job should be just a top up job when it comes to undersealing. Do it every 2 years to make sure rust has no chance to set in. Mine needed derusting, cutting, plate welding and resealing. I am lucky to have got it done for only €200.

It's great that you have the downpipe situation sorted.

Am going to take your advice on that as it will need some welding and plating doing. I really like this one and want to keep it
