Some unbelievable prices up on eBay for FTO parts - some guys have literally taken the car apart and are selling bolt by bolt.

He is from the US, It is Extremely rare to get an FTO there so he might feel that justifies the price. He does need a reality check though.

in some parts of the world like America or East Europe , these cars are rare and expensive . you can make a nice profit if you have spare parts to resell.

a pair of wind deflectors in pristine condition can be around 100 pound mark ( the window trims are around that price also on camskill without delivery !!!) and if you transform that in dollars and you add your profit .. i'd say the guy is not extremely off with the price

edit : yes , you can find cheaper . . but .. always you get what you pay for
