Emissions - replacement cat needed just in case

Postby Mitsumaniac » Sat Jul 09, 2011 7:38 pm

Hi lads,
I`m going for NCT again on Wednesday.
Didn`t pass last time due to emissions but the car wasn`t used for a while as it`s for sale and just before NCT I discovered something like coolant temp was a bit too low. After short search I found out that coolant temp sensor may be the reason of my emissions fail. I`ve replaced it and put redex but if it fails again would someone have 100% good cat around Dublin for lend for a retest?
Any help appreciated :) hopefully I won`t need it but there`s a guy who wants to buy her with NCT so I want to be prepared for quick retest.

Have you got a CAT installed at present, I.e. your original one? If so, I would expect you'll be fine. Unless of course your emissions were through the roof, in which case lambda sensor could also have been your problem.

Yep I have original cat in.
Emissions readings from last test:

High idle:
Lambda 0.97 - 0.97-1.03 fail
CO 1.72% - above 0.30% fail
HC 174 ppm - above 200 ppm fail

I know lambda reading isn`t perfect but anyway CO readings are very high...

I'll be heading to Dublin on Friday and can give you mine AS A LOAN, if you fail again as I'll be down the road from you.
Had my NCT about two months ago and sailed through it.

(I made "as a loan"in capitals as the last person who loaned someone a CAT had problem getting theirs back).

Let us know if you still need it.

Hmmm CO are indeed through the roof. You could very well still have the problem if you haven't replaced the lambda. Too late now though so probably replace CAT and see what happens.

Guys you won`t believe what happened...
As last time I failed on emissions I got a new cat from eBay and was pretty much sure that it`ll pass now.
Today during the re-test aircon belt has fallen apart and damaged alternator belt can you imagine???
And it all happened during emission test at high revs... I just can`t describe how mad I am
They gave me money back as this was nothing more just my bad luck and have to get these belts till thursday as i`m going on holidays on friday...

Will someone have part numbers for those belts? Or maybe have some spare ones?
