In Lapland and going to visit Santa :)

Postby soc » Wed Nov 25, 2009 12:09 pm

I'm in Finland for training right now - just inside the arctic circle and close to Santa's village in a place called Rovaniemi :) I've been reading about the weather at home and I'm almost afraid to come home - even though we're so far north the weather here hasn't been too bad - apart from a constant mist and the lack of sunlight the temps have been ok - too warm sometimes and we've had a few races cancelled as a result (not enough snow believe it or not). We're finishing up this weekend (home on Monday) so we're gonna go visit Santa on the way home 8)

Got a few photos of training - imagine living with this kind of light all the time..., it really is depressing!

And here's a few photos I've had from the summer - some sweet cars... notice the sign in the window of the merc :wink:

Aye, it's pretty low key being a non-snow nation. I was supposed to hang up the boots after last season (5th World Champs in Val d'Isere) but it was my best season ever and I made qualification for Vancouver easily so I figured I'd give it a shot.

I'm running a blog of my 2009-2010 season on wordpress -> http://shaneskiracing.wordpress.com

There's a few vids from training here in finland and tignes (earlier in Nov) on youtube

Tignes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UD-_xOX9txg

There's some from the worlds on there too but this is my favourite (even if I didn't land it) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0I6as1tfYPg

Wow, amazing stuff getting that far! Thats excellent, best of luck with it. How did this one escape us all?
Non ski nation or not someone that makes world championships etc is big news and should have full support behind them! Well done!
