TVR Cerbera - whats the catch??

Postby adrian » Sat Mar 10, 2007 11:58 am

There are some sweet looing Cerbera around for good money. How reliable etc?? I am thinking, emmm 5k miles a year is all I will be doing in my second car... would reliability really matter?!? I am torturing myself. I am guessing insuring a 4 litre will not be easy anyway!

I don't know about the reliability & expense of owning one. Actually I'm sure they would be a big expense.
But looks wise and for coolness, the TVR's are leagues ahead of the other motors you've considered or been recommended in the other threads so far.

Yea, been readin alot about them alright... there are 2 independent guys in Belfast servicing all Cerbs North and SOuth of the border from what I can see. And the owners speak very positive about them saying that thing to go wrong can often be fixed with repica parts.

4.5 litre V8... I think those words alone mean I can not really afford it....

Fantasic car - not a great car from an ownership viewpoint but still a fantastic car. Incredible sounding - rocketship fast but they do have their problems - especially in relation to build quality and reliability & maintenance.

Good weekend car - not really a daily driver - esp in Ireland.

I'd love to own one - just not practical enough for me and thats saying something!

Yea, on readin about these some owners have no problems and some have loads of problems. I am really looking for a weekend car anyway, but really can not afford to run something that is gonna cost the earth. I am making that list that CJ recommended and am struggling with even making the list... hoe am I going to be when I actually have to choose!  :)

The VRT came back for a 1999 Cerbera 4.2...... 4650 euro which is very good I thought! Resist, resist!

Resistance in futile!

Why u wanna resist? It's an awesome looking machine..I'm sure a test drive or two would put your mind at rest...

Either you'd REALLY want one - or it'd be out of your system.

What about

??

Definetly my first choice behind a Sagaris although the price might be a bit steep...

cerberas are a drop dead gorgeous car with a very funky interior. i have never driven one so cant comment on handling but something rings a bell that they are a tad tricky with all the power on tap.
One other problem is that there can be quite a big difference in build quality although im sure a full service history from a cherished owner would quell any concerns.
i know you've decided on the porsche adrian but imo the individuality of the TVR sets it miles apart
