Hi people, my name is Colin, owned my FTO since 2001 and still enjoy every second when I get the chance to drive it, it’s a bit of a track toy now with lots of modifications having been done over the years including a multi point cage, 330mm AP brakes, built in extinguisher system etc etc and is about to get a new Torsen type LSD gearbox next week and six new throttle bodies in the new year....... Poor old girl has done 12,500 kilometres on the Nürburgring but is still going strong (well after one and a bit engine rebuilds  )

Here's a couple of pics..

I started tracking it in Germany in late 2001 and the attention it got back then over there was immense, this coming Easter I am taking 14 FTO's over to the Nürburgring from the FTOOC, I see a few Irish plated cars there but no IRL plated FTO's as yet, maybe soon I hope. :D

So how many laps does that equate to ? - must be lots !!

Yes, was a tiptronic but now a manual.....just.

Kace wrote:So how many laps does that equate to ? - must be lots !!

Done about 630 laps in total + or - 5, so really about 12,600 km if based on 20km a lap, but 40 laps were done on the full 24 hour circuit (F1 and Nordschleife combined) which is about 25km a lap. So 12,800km would be a closer figure as 13 is unlucky so I will go from 12,999 to 14,000 without counting to closely.

Good to see a long established member on the UK forum over for a visit.
Thats a trick looking FTO you got there.

Would be very interested in hearing more about your handling mods done to date, power etc.

Welcome.. nice way to get the miles up :-)

and some very interesting sounding mods...would you care to elaborate both on the throttle bodies and the gear box by chance?

Throttle bodies are single block set custom made for the car that sits on the lower inlet manifold, here's a couple of pics taken back during some of the work:

They are 99% finished now, just having the end of one of the spindles modified to take the stock TPS, then I have a bonnet problem as the throttle body when fitted with the correct trumpets and filter is going to be a little high, ideally it needs to be even higher for the perfect intake length, but that would be too long. They should be fitted in early January...

The gearbox is just one of the GpvR boxes, apparently some of them had a Torsen type LSD boxes and some had the clutch type LSD box, I was lucky enough to find a Torsen one. I am hoping its going to be reliable after running a tip box with a large oil cooler (thats the trick to tips) on the circuit for years without any issues.

So nothing major really, I have to keep the reliability as a trip to the Nürburgring is a 1,000km there, usually 1,000km on the track and the 1,000km home again....

Thats a really nice set up you have there. If I had the money, would love to get a second FTO, use it every day, and then trick my current one out a bit like yours for the track. I think I'll have to do the trip to Nurburg eitherway. Even if just to coast around, its something that has to be done.
Welcome along! :)
