Driving in convoy, please read before road trips!

For meets, (especially road trips) travelling in convoy is often the highlight of the meet. the stares from passers by, the open-mouthed stares from little kids and the sound of multiple V6s disturbing the peace all make for a fun drive.

There are problems with convoys however, the main one being getting split up. There are also other risks including drivers breaking red lights or driving towards oncoming traffic in an effort to make a turn and keep the convoy together.

I would ask anyone participating in a convoy to read these suggestions:

Signal all upcoming turns early (this will make life for the person behind you a lot easier)

Stick to the inside lane on dual carraigeways (this will make turning off the carraigeway much less dangerous)

Keep an appropriate distance from the FTO in front of you (this will make judgment calls re: traffic lights etc much easier) Too much of a distance and you'll get non-convoy cars breaking up the convoy.

Watch the car behind you. If he slows down, then you slow down, try to keep the group together.

If the convoy breaks up, then the person at the front will pull in somewhere safe until the rest of the convoy has caught up.

We will aim to keep radio contact between the first and last car in convoys.
