raising my bonnet

guys im thinking of raising my bonnet...
I hadnt done it yet as i know it causes drag,

but martin told me i should consider it as with the resign of the front of the fto theres not much space for air to be sucked in, or heat to leave.

so any help would be great in terms of cooling

Can't see how this'd help you much. Removing or modifying the scuttle panel would probably have the same effect.

If you can get placement of the induction kit and ducting right, I don't see why you'd need to mess with the bonnet hinges.

Can't connent on the effect it has on performance, but to be honest, those pics just give the impression there is something wrong with the bonnet, that its not closing right or is crashed as colm pointed out. Not sure I'd go with it.

If you are that worried about under bonnet temp - then either buy a CF vented bonnet or get a couple of cold air feeds in there. Also make sure your intake is properly heat sheilded.

TBH though - the only time you are going to be looking for max power will be 1/4 miles and track days and you'll find guys will just open the bonnet on a cooling down run to get the temp down and I'm sure its just as effective.

Raising the back of the bonnet is an old tuner's trick used in Japan....I've heard mixed reviews on its effect...on some cars it seems to do the opposite of cooling by creating a pressure difference and holding the hot air underneath the bonnet....whereas some tuners swear it cools things down.

As per the lads....concentrate on getting a better cold air feed into the bay.

I know a few RX-7 owners who have done this (the rotary runs very hot, I've seen intake temps of 65 deg C in the past) as I understand it, significant cooling can be achieved if you don't want to replace the bonnet or care about how it looks. Personally, I think you're wasting you're time doing this on an n/a motor, make up a custom CAI intake instead.
