built my induction piping

Postby nairnman » Sun Feb 05, 2012 10:29 am

i made it out of:
x1 76mm 45 degree silcone bend,
x1 74mm alloy joiner,
1x 76mm reducer to 70mm 90 degree silicone bend
i had to shorten the legs on the pipes to fit and in front of the filter there is my cold air feed from the front bumper, next on my list is a heat shield. also took out the honeycomb from the maf sensor but kept it just in case it didnt work, it isn't atatched by any wires and looks restrictive, reset ecu and works alot better and a great noise, i found it pulls in fourth gear as it would in 3rd which is a massive difference. also fitted a air tool fitting for the oil catch can and valve cover venting.

Really smart engine bay there. Some attention to detail had gone a long way.

I bet you want a red induction filter, a red oil filler cap and some more red silicone to wrap around the water cooler hose at the front of the engine bay.

How did you get the air intake so clean? Is that also painted?

i would have a new filter but this one is hks so i know i would have cost a bit so will keep untill its no good, the air intake is red silicone and comes nice and shiney, will get the radiator hose at one point, i do want the glass ones so might make some myself, the other pipes are silicone too

Yes, the plenum is what I meant. Usually when I say plenum, people are like "you mean the air intake?" :smt005

lol i painted it and laqured loads for a protective finish, i noticed it pulls more in 4th like it does when you drop down to 3rd in high revs. the noise is incredible even though i had this filter on the standard piping, so its noisier with the larger diameter, also not forgetting i removed the honeycomb bit inside the maf housing

Did you use that high temperature paint? What about the lacquer?

does anybody read the previous posts haha i painted it in normal rattle cans and the loads of laquer like 6 coats, the car has been thrashed abit so engine has been red hot and the paint is still good so i think the hight temp paint is overated, if used on calipers then yes

I think its more for longevity than anything else. The high temp paint only cures when it reaches a high temperature.
