I went to this site nononsense.ie and you put in the following details for a quick quote.

Age:30
NCB: 5+ years
Full license: 5+ years
Male
Car: 2.0litre

and it says 355euro. Then it says "click here to fill in more detail about this quote".

The moment you choose FTO...

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide you with a quote based on the information provided.

To ensure we can offer the best cover and value to as many customers as possible, the underwriting rules are quite specific. Common reasons for not being offered a quote are (other reasons can also apply);

* Your age or that of any additional drivers falls outside the acceptable range; e.g a driver aged 17 would not currently be offered a quote
* You have no driving experience, either in your own name or as a named driver
* Your car is a high performance or modified car
* Your car is over 13 years old
* Your car does not currently have a valid NCT certificate
* Your license type or that of any additional drivers is not currently accepted for a quote e.g. Provisional UK license
* You are not actually the registered owner of car

However, if your circumstances change in the future, please do get back in touch with us.

Thank you for taking the time to check out No Nonsense.

online chat transcript.
Please wait for a site operator to respond.

You are now chatting with 'Ronnie'

Ronnie: Hello. How may I help you today?

you: H

you: hi

you: I had a quote 82M CBZ

Ronnie: One moment please...

you: the moment I chose the car make/name you cannot quote me. I think the FTO is treated as some sort of Supercar by insurance firms here?

you: I have 8 years no claims and 8 years full license and am 30.

Ronnie: The car is listed as having been imported from outside Ireland/UK. We do not cover imported cars, I'm afraid.

you: imported cars?

you: are all cars not imported to Ireland?

Ronnie: We can accept Irish or UK cars.

you: I'll have to talk to the Insurance Ombusman about that. I thought insurance providers are legally bound to quote all Irish registered legal road cars. not ones that have been imported from a certain jurisdiction only?

you: but fair enough.

you: I'll follow up and get back in touch.

you: thanks ronnie.

I rang Nononsense about a week ago too, it kinda makes a mockery of their TV ad doesn't it?

yeah. Im just frustrated no one will quote for the FTO. I would prefer if they said 3000euro ok?
but this "we don't quote that car" is a joke. All cars are essentially imports. Its right hand drive, its fully registered in Ireland since it came in. whats the big deal?

Im insured with aviva but only because I had a policy with them before. Im paying 1,500 fully comp and im 28.Dont think its too bad. When I first got my FTO bout 2yrs ago, rang Quinn Insurance and they told me they insured FTOs except the GX model which was the one I had. Most other insurance companies wouldnt insure them at all!!!! Really stressful.
