BMW 535D - M-sport

What would peoples general impression be? They seem like decent money now (tax aside) - 2005 cars going for sub 27k and 272bhp from a 3ltr diesel with 30+mpg seems pretty impressive.

Yes, definitely. have heard of owners getting much more than 30mpg.
Still prefer the older shape though.

Yes, I've always had a soft spot for the older shape. Was day dreaming about an E39 M5 - purchase prices seem low now but I can imagine running costs are pretty high

I've driven pretty quite a few 5 series diesel models over the past couple of years from 520d to 535d and they are all excellent cars in their own right. The auto box seems to work best with their torquey low revving engines esp from 525d upwards. The 535d is a quick car and handles very well for a big saloon but don't buy it for its sportscar qualities.
Def a car on a shortlist if I was looking for a 4 door saloon - my biggest issue wouldn't be with the car itself - it just seems like theres 1000's of them on the road.

Now that the car market has fallen through the floor though - theres a lot of others that'd be on my list for circa 30K -
