im confused!!!

Postby miss-enzo » Thu Jun 14, 2007 1:58 pm

ok so i got my renewal: went from €900 to €771(tpft)
i went online to see what a new customer would be cause my sis did the same with her car and got over €200 cheaper.
so i did. now my car is an import so i have to insure it as a DE3A even thought they dont offer the manual on the site (i rang about it and they said not all their cars are on the online system... bit stupid if u ask me!)
since they didnt offer my car i got a quote for a GPX MIVEC which is what my car is neway €448 tpft and €774 fully comp.
obv i rang them about this they said they would match it. rang back again said it had been matched and they sent new forms out so i rang today to confirm they got my cheque (cause im not home b4 my policy runs out to sign forms), they said ya for tpft. i said no.... blah blah blah was on the phone for 25mins with this B!tch of an agent. then she says the gpx u got a quote for is a 1.5 i was like eh no they dont come in that, then she said ya an mx3 is a 1.5 Dumbo had the wrong page open, that was 2 yrs ago i had that car!
got nowhere wit her rang back to talk to supervisor, no joy was put through to customer services, where the lady proceeded to tell me that the gpx and the de3a are 2 TOTALLY different cars, i tried to explain otherwise but she was having none of it!!

so now ive decided to report them to the insurance ombudsman. i mean thats stupid isnt it chargin more for an import, accordin to her the imported ones are high powered sports cars!!! and the non imports arent! :? confused??? i am!! so hopefully i can sort this out now thru the ombudsman.

i know some of u thinkin why would i bother my insurance is cheap neway! but its not about the money now its aboput principles! :D

Exactly what Bernard said.... Aren't all FTOs imported? I'm confused myself now.... when I bought my car from a jap import place he registered it for me. The registration just says 1990cc FTO. Which I dunno what that is? but its not a GPvR anyways. but I made sure to insure it as a GP version R on the insurance cert to make sure there is NO confusion if I ever have to make a claim. could have probably risked insuring it as a non-mivec or something like that. but no chance. Cannot take risks these days with so many insurers prepared to defualt your insurance.

ya i know i mean they know nothin about the cars at alll its ridiculus! mine in the log is a de3a but its stilla gpx mivec and i told them that then they said oh ur car is insured wrong then, i was like how is it its registered as a de3a and insured as one. oh u just said its a mivec gpx, i said ya it is but the chassis is de3a.

dopes dunno what they are at!!! and the will feel the wrath of a woman scorned very soon!! they picked the wrong b!tch to mess with!

The DE3A is the engine code, all 2 litre FTOs (Mivec AND non-mivec - GR, GX, GP, GPX, GPvR) have that same engine code. The 1.8 (i.e. GS) is DE2A.

Yup, all FTOs are imported, no such thing as a non imported FTO. Ralliart did sell some FTOs in the UK but afaik they were still classed as imports as it wasn't completely official.

I can understand insurance being higher for imports to a certain extent though... a friend who had an imported prelude had to spend about 450 quid to fix his exhaust when a 'native' model would have only set him back 120, so from that point of view there's some justification.

Sounds like their database was put together by someone who hadn't a clue what he was talking about though (common trend amongst insurance companies unfortunately). Having said that, the insurance employees using those databases don't help the situation at all!!

It'd be nice if we had some way of putting them straight though... best of luck getting it all sorted out miss e!

Just a couple of clarifications
GPX engine code is 6A12 not DE3A ...just in case they are getting picky about the details

DE2A and DE3A are the parts of the chassis code that differentiate the 1.8l 4cyl from the 2.0l v6 respectively. ...The insurance company should not be quoting based on the chassis code this is a mistake

Also the eclipse is a different car entirely and has nothing whatever to do the FTO. It is a front wheel drive cope which was a joint venture between dodge and mitsubishe was supposed to be US only and so only comes with the steering wheel on the left.

..BTW I have a manual GPX insured with quinn with no difficulties at all.

Well seeing as everyone is being picky, DExA is actually referred to as the model designation. ;)

6A12 refers to the engine block and not the engine as a whole entity. For example, the GS engine block is 4G93 which is shared by a number of earlier EVOs \ GSR's.

Back on topic - good luck with your quest miss enzo, I'd be interested to hear how you get on.

ok contacted the insurance federation there about this, just sent them an email with all the information in it. you man on the phone said that they can charge extra for a jap car because the cost of parts etc if they have to fix them are higher, which is fair enough!

the issue i have is that they told me my quote was matched and then retracted that! and also the fact that they are quoting for non-imports.
im gettin a complaint form from the insurance ombudsman too.

letter sent to the irish insurance federation!

My insurance policy was started by my sister (who had previoulsy owned and
been insured on this car) in August 2006. I recently received a renewal
form quoting me €771 for third party fire and theift. On receiving this i
went online to get a quote as a new customer as my sister had done the
same a few weeks earlier and had received a quote over €200 less than what
her renewal was. I decided to do the same as if a new customer was getting
a cheaper price I felt that a customer who has been with the company for
5years should get the same prices as a reward for being a "valued
customer".

I got the quote on a GPX Mivec as this is what my car is, it had previously
been insured on the chassis number (de3a) however on the online website
Quinn do not offer a manual version of the de3a, which my car is. The quote
i received was €488 tpf&t so naturally I rang them regarding this. They
said they would try and match it, i rang back a week or so later and was
told my quote was matched, I had the agent send me out the paper work to
this effect. (as of yet i have not received it as i am away from my home
address and will not be returning until this weekend)

Once i was told the quote had been matched i had a cheque sent to Quinn
Direct and i was changing my policy to fully comprehensive as it was €774
on that quote. I rang again 2 days later to see if the cheque had been
received, it had and i was told i was now covered tpf&t, i spoke with the
agent for over 40mins trying to find out why i was not being covered fully
comp when i had been told i was and i got nothing but arrogence from the
agent. I rang back later to talk to a supervisor as the agent i spoke with
would not listen to what i was saying, i was put through to customer
servies and was told that i was paying more becase my car is a jap import,
this baffled me as the car i have was never released in Europe so all those
in Ireland are imports. I have been in contact with many FTO owners over
the last few days and alot of information has been passed on regarding how
they have been insuring my car etc., on talking to these people i found
this is a common problem with Quinn Direct as it happens; its just nobody
has taken any action.

the following is some of the information i received from a few
enthuasiasts:

"DE2A and DE3A are the parts of the chassis code that differentiate the 1.8
L 4cyl from the 2.0L v6 respectively, the GPX engine code is 6A12 "

"all 2 litre FTOs (Mivec AND non-mivec - GR, GX, GP, GPX, GPvR) have that
same chassis code."

Since my car is a mivec GPX, being insured solely on the chassis code if i
was to be in a crash i fear my insurance would not be valid, it would be
like having a vtec civic insured as a plain civic. This is my biggest fear,
the cost of the insurance is not the problem; just the fact that they are
quoting for jap imports and non- imports when there are no non-imports is
an issue however. if i was to insure my car as a GPX mivec (as it is one)
and was in a crash i wouldnt be covered because its not correct, however
either is being insured as a de3a.

i hope you can sort out these issues. if you need anymore information feel
free to contact me
Regards
Louise Moran

RESULT!!!!

Postby miss-enzo » Tue Jun 19, 2007 2:51 pm

letter this morning from the iif.

Hi Paul,

I have checked the details on this policy for you.

I have arranged for the cover to be changed to Comprehensive at the price
of €774 as stated below by customer - new documents will go out to her to
advise of this.

In relation to the vehicle we put a chassis number in the description to
basically distinguish between the cars but this will have no affect on her
ability to claim. She is fully covered under the details we have on the
system and which are on her documents.
