Diesel Engine Break in?

Postby adrian » Wed May 10, 2006 8:37 pm

Hi all, I am going to hopefully pick up my hew Hilux Vigo 3.0 D4D this weekend. Is there a break-in procedure or period for a diesel engine any more or is that a thing of the past? Any advice appreciated. Thanks, Adrian

Dunno about diesels or particular engines... I've heard conflicting things about the engines being bench run-in nowaways. Other people I've heard saying don't drive it over 5000rpm or 50mph for the first 1000 miles, others have said that you have to push it every so often in the first 1000 miles (oh ya, ~1600km) to loosen it up.

I'd say there's a lot of urban myth around on the subject.

My advice would be to ask the garage you're buying it from, and go with whatever they tell you. At least then noone can accuse you of treating it the wrong way if something goes wrong!
