Rang 46 insurance and broker companies....... and guess how many would insure me. NONE.
But there is some good news as my renewal is at the end of this month with Quinn so I rang them.
I was paying €780 (i think) on my 1.3 mirage coupe before I changed to the FTO last month +88 euro for the FTO for 3 months till renewal. Anyway rang them and its €807 for the FTO and my girlfriend on it. I think that is pretty good

Thank F*ck im with quinn. :nwor

Model/Year: GR 95
Age: 23
Licence type: Full Irish
NCB: 3
Insurer: Quinn
Policy amount: €807.47

Do you guys think it would be a good idea to get in touch with a manager there and see if they will be willing take a few of us a new business. They might do it if there are a good few of us. It would mean a good few thousand to them and we might have a better chance than calling individually. I'll be will ing to call and argue with them

Its a good quote alright, mine is €762 on a GPX but i have 6 years no claims which makes it a bit cheaper than yours. We're lucky to be insured for around the €800 mark as most people seem to be paying more.

TPFT, i dont really see the point in having comprehensive at the moment as the car is only worth about €2500 or so.

thinking the same cullen, is it worth having fully comp? I supopse the only risk is if you crash the car you get nothing. at least with comp. you get a cheque for a few grand to help you get on the road again. I read this thread from the start. its unreal to think we paid 2 or 3k to ensure the cars 7 years ago. mad money. my choice now is 688 TPFT or 1019 (was 1366 but I removed open drive option) FC with QD. I have a month to decide so will shop around. doesn't look good though. most would not hear of it. and those that did quote were through AXA and ranged from 1200 - 1650euro FC.

Have to wait and see it in black and white.

Mine is TPFT and its with Setanta through O Malley Griffin brokers in Limerick, €680 which is the lowest quote I've ever got. Grace, driving the DC5 Type R, got a quote off them for €760 fully comp, couldnt get quoted through any other company for that car, so in all I can highly recommend them if anyone is finding it difficult to get quotes. Thanks to Bernard that we found out about them, but they definately seem a good reliable option.

I'll post the quote once I hear back form O'Malley Griffin and see how it compares to 688 TPFT and 1019 FC with QD.

The way i see it is that if i have comprehensive and i crash and claim the €2500 the car is worth i'll end up paying that back over the next few years through my raised premiums anyway.

yeah been thinking the same, but what if you broke a leg in a crash and required 12 months of physio? your on your own I think then. so not only do you have to pay yourself the 2500euro to buy a new car, but you might have 1000s of medical bills.
I dunno what to do. will give it a while and see. Quinns quote they gave me for 1019 FC has been revised upward to 1092. I rang them up and was told there is a note on my policy that its NOT to be adjusted anymore and this is the underwriting departments FINAL price.
Seems they got p1ssed off with me fiddling with it online trying to lower it. lame.

Originally they quoted me E929.26 so I went online and got a quote instead and got this figure! Rang them and they were like "oh we dont match online quotes anymore, you can just pay for that one and then we will lapse your original one" Gave you one some earfull about not looking after their current customers enough. its some joke!

You should have mentioned that it is the fastest (proven) FTO in Ireland. That would have really helped.

FEKK I only pay £372! :o

Granted I'm probably ancient compared to some being 36 but that's on:
GPX tip
TPFT
12 years NCB (protected)
Business use (they said it would be a lot less without that)
Me & the Mrs to drive

That was with Admiral, but I do live in a good insurance rated postcode which probably helps a lot.
Also I used to be a non-standard motor insurance underwriter so I knew what I should pay before I even started ringing around so as soon as I got to that price I stopped ringing around, possibly could have found cheaper if I spent more time.

The difference with you is that you live in the UK, and we have to bend over here in Ireland.

I didn't realise insurance was much different in Ireland, that stinks!
my insurance used to cost a lot more when I lived in a bit of a dodgy neighbourhood but now it's sensible money.

Fair play to people who run high group cars then.
