Re the motor tax, I reckon its only the new emissions based bands that will change, they totally ballsed it up in 2008, they didn't take into account the improvements manufacturers were making in emissions on petrols and diesels, and the trickery they would employ to do well in the Euro cycle emissions testing.

I would welcome a closer system, the current system of €200 min and €2000 max is disproportionate, €200 to use the roads for a year is too good value. i reckon a minimum of €400 for the year is fair, and while I disagree with someone paying €2000 motor tax, a top level of around €900 could apply. I reckon they'd still take in a similar amount of tax.

Have to agree colm, if they lowered the maximum tax to 900 I would most certainly get back into a 2.8 or 3 litre again.

Just to clarify, the top rate now for band G cars based on CO2 emissions is €2258

Effectively making 225+ CO2, year 2008 onwards cars unsaleable 2nd hand. Its so ridiculous the government will only loose money on it because virtually no-one will pay that amount of motor tax.

As per above posts - a band of min €300 - max €800 would be a much fairer system and the government would stand to gain much more by it.

Not as long as those feckin seat trims I have been waiting on. The latest yesterday was an email from the owner asking if I was interested in full leather retrims rather than the leatherette. The leatherette will be replaced for free, but leather will be at an unknown discounted price. I do like the thoughts of the real leather and I want all royal blue this time. No white...it gets filthy too easy. I am waiting on him to get back to me about a price. It's taken so long, I've almost completely lost interest in doing anything else to the fto.

Looks well Colm - the new shape grill (and maybe a set of OE Jaguar 19's) would sharpen the look up nicely.

Whats it actually like to drive?

It's no sports car, kinda between an e class and a 5 series dynamically. It's quite fast without feeling fast (0-60 6.9 claimed) the steering is lovely and weighted but not as sharp as a 5 series, it actually grips and grips (p zero assimetrico's probably help) and the traction control hardly ever kicks in.
Then again that's not what the car is about, it's supremely comfortable, the seats are excellent and it handles rough roads very well. It's very quiet at high speeds and it's got some shove between 100 and 140kmph
It's feels a bit bargey in car parks and the likes but nothing I can't handle.
Fuel consumption is surprising, I can now crack 30mpg at motorway speeds Shannon>limerick, consumption has improved since I got it.

It's quite tight in the back. the boot is really shallow and there's zero cabin storage. Not that I care.

I'm sticking with 17s, they're plenty big enough for it IMO
