[FTO MEET] Killarney/Kenmare [9th/10th Aug 2008]

Postby Dragonheart » Thu Jul 10, 2008 11:07 pm

OK, I'm going to start a list for the meet I outlined on an earlier post (Healy Pass/Tunnel Road - Adrigole-Kenmare-Glengarriff) here, I dont know how many people would be interested in going karting in cork city beforehand, cause it is a long trip for some to cork, do the karting, and then down to west cork, or should we just meet in cork city in the mid morning sometime and go on a road trip on the route I described. If you put your names down could you put a 'K' after it if interested in going karting so I could get an idea if its worth arranging or not. Also an 'O' if staying overnight, we can decide later if its Glengarriff or Kenmare we stay in. I would say overnight would be worth it as on a lot of meets the day after is always good for photos or whatever.
The date that seems to be sticking out is 9th and 10th August from the other post.
Anyone got any other comments or suggestions feel free to speak up, more suggestions the better. If not enough numbers we can postpone for another day or something.

Was thinking there, after karting on the way to west cork i presume we'll be passing through Macroom? And well we have to eat somewhere so if ppl are interested I could get a decent rate on dinner in the hotel? Either off the bar menu or something else? Let me know either way!

Nope not passing through macroom, I was planning on going down the short way, take a left at Crookstown, and over the Coosawn. We could stop in Tatler Jacks on the way down though which just outside ballincollig, decent grub there.

Yup, I will be ringing the karting tomorrow to see what the craic is with numbers required and that, though I reckon we have enough. Regarding staying overnight, what are peoples thoughts, Kenmare or Glengarriff? Glengarriff has a few b+bs in the village so everyone would be more or less in the same place, the village is small, 5 mins to walk to one end of from the other. Kenmare I'm not sure it works there but a big tourist town and trying to get places might be tough and would prob be more expensive. What ye reckon? I'd go Glengarriff personally.

Just back tonight from Kenmare (diving for week). Stayed in my usual haunt outside Kenmare. A few of the guys here on the forum have stayed here for meets previously as well. Very good for parking (important if you have a car meet) and just €30 for B&B. Very senic area and good pub and food in B&B. They currently have availability for the weekend of the meet. Also have 2 apartments (inc breakfast) which work out cheaper than B&B at €25 each.

This is is Kilmacanogue (sp?), right? Slightly off the beaten track but a great location nonetheless.

They are already holding 2 apartments for me.
One has a double bed and a twin room - the other has a double bed and 2/3 singles. Both have small kitchen and TV/lounge area + adajcent pub (v important).

In addition I can also book out B&B rooms in the pub.

Thats the place CJ - it is a nice drive along the peninsula BUT if we are talking about being in Glengariff then its right on the "Ring of Beara" route we can take the "Healy Pass" route directly to Lauragh (Killmak) or the tunnel route and hang a left before we come to Kenmare.

I was on these roads over the weekend and they are all well surfaced at the moment - won't be any issues with the lowered FTO's and Zeds amongst us.

From the below list just state your choice of room.
Elaine - if you're bringing the kids you could just book out one of the apartments on your own at €100 per night inc breakfast.
I'll book the rooms according to your preferences - best to get this booked this week though as this place fills up fast at this time of year.

Good to note, the Wicklow mountains were an experience alright.

I'll be going on my own so all I need is a single, what's the story with giving a deposit?
