Assessors usually come to the house. Tell them you may decide to keep the car, so you don't want to surrender it. It is your property after all.

Hi all,

Here is the latest, the assessor valued the car at €2850 (I would say partially thanks to your advice too, I've sent him lengthy email describing the car and work done to it in detail and listed other FTOs for sale and how does my compare to them, all accompanied by loads of pictures) and post accident €600.

So I can either keep the car and get €2250 or have it scrapped and get €2850.

What do you guys think? Most likely I will not be repairing it, but I was thinking of taking parts from it (newish set of Michelin Pilot Sport tyres and other parts that have just been changed/refurbed in the course of my ownership)

Does it make sense to keep the car for parts and stuff?

If you are planning on doing a reshell or something I'd keep the car you know its been looked after . If you are planning on breaking I wouldn't hold your breath on selling everything but you have the advantage of having a Mivec manual the running gear will sell quickly

I would say take the €600 hit and you'll know what to do when not under pressure. That's a fair valuation and you could get it fixed for half the cash left over. It would be a few weeks getting fixed, but I think it is worth it, as you know it would be a long time before finding one nearly as clean as yours.

If you decide to sell after repairing it, you should make your money back easy enough.

Agreed. Take the cash and keep the car, it'd give you some breathing space to make a decision in your own time.
If it was me I'd shop around with an eye to repairing it, it'd be a shame to scrap it for parts.

It sounds like you have done very well there - that's probably the highest price paid for an FTO in this country for several years.

Cheers lads, I'll be keeping the car. I thought that the evaluation was fair given the condition of the car and work carried out on it over the last year (but it's worth a lot more to me). I've been looking around both here and in UK for clean GPvR or GPX for sale but they don't come anywhere close to mine.

I would gladly pay a lot more for another one like mine. Thinking of getting GX as they are more plentiful and keeping an eye out for clean manual Mivec.

There has been a good few broke in recent years a shell will be cheap if you are willing to put in the work . Not rocket science where there's a will there's a way :) Tbh I don't know your car but from your thread you are not going to get one as good in Ireland from what iv seen for sale

That's mad I didn't even noticed that we got "a bit" sidetracked! :)

Have received an email late afternoon from Aviva that the claim has been settled and that they issued payment by EMTS, they are covering the full amount for the towing and storing to Gannons.

Roll-on next week, I'm having severe FTO withdrawals!
