That sounds crazy - I'd kick up a lot if mine went up in these circumstances. I'd be taking this to the director of consumer affairs and the insurance ombudsman. I'm not sure how they can justify such an increase for someone who should have decreased as a risk!!

My brother's insurance went up quite a bit at renewal time a few weeks ago, he ended up getting a quote about 1/3 of what the guys he was with were after!

The whole industry just defies logic completely!

Did you have to pay out the extra 600 then and can you recommend the place you're with to quote for performance cars ?

Hi all, found this topic very interesting! - had to put my own details here...

Model\Year: 95 GS Tip
Age: 24
Cover Type: fully comp
NCB: 2yrs (i think)
Named driver experience: ~6yrs
Insurer: AXA
Policy amount: €1900

Dont think im doing too bad price wise, I upgraded from a 1.3 lancer, and insured the fto for an extra 400 for the remaining 1/2 year, AXA said it should drop by around 500 upon insurance renewal (sept!), they hadnt heard of an FTO before and asked if it was sporty!

Just brought an FTO over from the UK,can`t get it insured because my broker says nobody has heard of an FTO over here!

Any suggestions? I see AXA is an option and as I`m 51 I may have an advantage age-wise over some of you.(Never thought I`d see being 51 as an advantage!!)

Regards Mike Doyle

Welcome Mike and best of look with the car. Check out this link for a list of companies insuring the FTO. It can be a bit of a minefield getting insurance for the FTO but persevere!

You should get insured no problem with Pat Britton insurance in Donegal. Obviously not too many FTOs knocking around Doonbeg.

Didn't someone else do that a month or 2 ago? Doonbeg rings a bell, can't think of the username...

They did alright and there were a few strings pulled, but i've a tracker in there for security, kept it on from when i used to be monitored, but i think they've just put it through as a bog standard 1.8.

Hi,
If you don't mind me asking how the hell did you get that quote?? I'm 27 with 8yrs NCB with a full license and they wouldn't even quote me when I called them direct. The only quote I got from Hibernian was through a broker and they quoted me €2,200 ...was I trying the wrong places or is there some trick I don't know about??
It's just really frustrating when you see the crap that goes on with insurance, I don't know why the companies can't use the grouping scheme for cars that the english insurers use so that things can at least be a little bit more transparent.
...ggrrrr
