New Bumper Finally!

Postby StewyD32 » Sun Aug 28, 2011 3:41 pm

Finally got someone to to the bumper at a decent price properly. He even took care of the lacquer peel on the bonnet.

some before.

And after.

I was going to as him to cut the centre bar in front of the mesh off to create the "big mouth" look but i actually like it better this way.

The lip was tiger bonded, riveted, and fibreglassed and moulded down. The flushing of the lip onto the bumper is absolutely perfect, but the colour is a few shades out as the car was resprayed before which I didn't know (maybe previous owners might enlighten me (probably the moulding of the side skirts?)). It doesn't come out much in these photos, but the guys took the petrol cap and are sending it to dublin to match it with a paint specialist and will spray it again at the end of the week.

I'll post up some proper pictures when its resprayed and say the garages name when i get it back.

Thanks lads. All I need to do now is find out the real colour of the car seems it's not A34. The paint should be matched and sprayed by next week hopefully......but it does look good :smt055

Aww, nice!! Looks very well. Shane might be able to throw some light on the colour, but I thought it was original (although the back bumper was resprayed and not matched well). You need to bear in mind its 16 y.o. paint, might be part of it?

Yeah topcat the front is like a fresh colour that's on the rear which is definitely A34. I presume the job that Shane did which was the side and boot takes up the rest of the car which is a different colour. I know the paint will fade over time but it is a different colour and not just fading of the paint job.

That looks sweet Stewy.

yeah - I had resprayed quite a bit of the FTO when I put those skirts on however it was using A34 paint though. Silver can be notoriously hard to match - and I noticed at the last meet I was at that someone else seems to have sprayed the rear bumper since I had it - hence the mismatch.

Yeah I heard that about the silver paint, the new job is the same as the back bumper so I'm guessing the rest of the car is not A34, as it is several shades out.

Im not too bothered about the rear bumper just the front as you notice it more with the grooves and bends on the work.
I might be able to get him to flash in the back bumper if I'm lucky.

A34 isn't just A34..I know it's a paint code and all but depending on the manufacture of the components it'll come out darker/lighter.. I'm not 100% sure but I think this is even mentioned on wikipedia somewhere..

Ah just my luck then as always.
As I said the petrol cap is gone off to a paint specialist so hopefully it will be a near match when it's redone.

I know I got "A34" made up in a motor factors and it looks a completely different shade to the official Mitsi touch up paint which seems to be a decent match.
Unfortunately its 10 quid a pop for a measly 100ml or so!

Really the only way of ensuring a match.
