Thats bloody stupid, no company should have a right to do that. They told us that Setanta are one company who will insure anyone and anything, but if they're going to go down that route its very bloody unfair. Why doesnt that lazyass ombudsman start earning his money and put a stop to that sort of nonsense.

I'd be pushed to try to believe that too, its amazing though, they have the potential for all this extra business, out of how many members here, and they want to turn it down? Not very good business heads running Setanta if you ask me. I thought the whole idea of a business company was to increase your business? :smt017

Strange - I'm with Travellers also through Britton, although this is not a new policy.

Hey guys, just an update...

I heard back off O'Malley Griffin. They said that Setanta would process the proposal as my details were already submitted to their system on Tuesday morning before they told O'Malley Griffin to stop submitting FTOs to them.
The girl was saying they had received alot of calls about FTOs in the past weeks. That obviously got flagged in Setanta somehow and they clamped down on it. I then got an email off the owner Eamon O'Malley to inform me that O'Malley Griffin will still quote for FTO's but just not through Setanta, so the quotes might not be as competitive. (AXA in other words - mine was 1400/1600euro with them broker/direct).
I was also told they could not guarantee that i would get insurance via Setanta next year either just because they will accept me now.
Anyway, 790euro FC. done and paid for. I'm just happy to tell Quinn where to go. (at least until next year hah)

yep. Gotta take my chances. Can't justify paying 100s extra to quinn this year just so they offer me a renewal next year. Anyway, they laughed at me for querying a 64% increase in premium, so screw them. :) :)

Great you got the quote, big difference. I cannot see the whole 'flagging' the FTO thing though! So what if its an FTO! They're getting loads of business of the FTO scene if they keep it going so whats Setantas big problem?? Would love to get onto them to find out. Also if they quote you this year they do have to next year dont they?

well the lady in O'Malley Griffin said she couldn't guarantee they would quote next year. but I think what she meant was they may just have a ridiculous renewal premium which makes it impossible to stay. i.e. 2000euro or something.
I've left Quinn before and went back to them 2 years later when they were the best price. I'll see if they quote me on the FTO next year if Setanta don't offer a reasonable quote.
I agree with you though, its VERY strange. Britton came back with some quotes for me that were over 1300euro. axa was 1600 direct and 1300- 1400 with a broker.
Pibasure.ie actually came back with 3 quotes ranging from 1100 - 1200 which was the best I got apart from quinn and setanta. I clicked into the quotes though and they only had stepback protection for NCB not FULL protection. but may be worth checking out for some of you. CJ can you add that to the original list www.pibasure.ie cheers

Got my insurance cert/disc today. Feels like a weight off, and now I can tell Quinn bye bye. :smt006 :ll :r
I would have stayed with them if no other option though, but nice to change.

Hi. I'm planning to buy an FTO that's in Motorpoint on Naas Road.
Thankfully I have rang insurance company (FBD) to ask them what would be my premium.
My current policy runs out in mid May and they told me I need to pay additional 120 (on top of current 800) for last 2 months, but cannot say what would be the quote (and if) for renewal, as the car has 125% loading.
I'm 29yo in may I'm gonna have 4 years NCB licence for 5 years.

So I started to ringing other companies, as online quotation didn't work anywhere.
Quinn Direct declined (of course after I gave all my details she asked for a car). They don't want to insure this car.

A received a quote from Brittons Insurance for 850 euros for TFT "with a compulsory excess of €4000".
So basically it sucks, as the car value is 3000 (is it worth it?) and when I asked what if someone steals my car? She said "Then you don't get nothing".
Hmm insurance without insurance?
Anyway she cannot promise me that quote either as it expires in 2 weeks. And I need an insurance from mid May.

First time in my life I cannot wait to be 30 already :D but still need to wait till November.

Now I don't know if I should take that car or not, take it and have problems insuring it in 2 months?

Any thoughts?

I was in the same situation as you as i had to pay a little before mt insurance was up with Quinn. They gave me a very very good renewal. So i wouldn't worry being "dropped" when your renewal is up.
As for you waiting to be 30. It won't make a blind bit of difference when you got an FTO in the insurers eyes.
So in my opinon take it

yep, turning 30 makes ZERO difference. Well it certainly didn't in my case.
It's true that the FTO is very difficult to insure for some reason. I would not buy it until you are pretty certain that you can get a reasonable insurance deal. I don't think the 4000 excess insurance is worth it personally.

Also, just guessing from the above information I would deduce(guess) you would need to pay an extra 60euro per month next year + your 800 from last year plus maybe 10% increase in premium due to market circumstances.

720extra + 880 = 1600euro

and, funnily enough thats the exact price range I was getting off AXA and AA and a few others. All quotes were 1300 - 1600. (8years no claims bonus age 30)

I tell you one thing, knightrider will be the first and last FTO I'll ever have. It's actually easier to insure a Ferrari.
