Emission failure?

Postby newFTOkid » Tue May 31, 2011 12:38 pm

Hi All

Went for the test yesterday and it went down on emmissions :(

Here are the results :

High Idle

Lambda 1.12 (should be between 0.97 and 1.03)

CO 2.27 (should not be above 0.30)

HC 249 ppm (should not be above 200ppm)

Low idle seems to be fine

Any advise welcome :D What would ye recommend I change first ?

Thanks

Did you put in a bit of Redex before going there and drive it hard in 3rd gear on the way to the centre? Also changing oil and filter helps if it hasn't been done in a while. The lambda readings aren't bad, its the CO2 emissions are pretty high.

I didn't use redex but I put some Diptaine in yesterday - seems not to have worked though. I drove it really hard down to the NCT but they didn't test it till nearly half an hour later.

Read here:

Diputane doesn't work if things are already bad. I would suggest changing coolant temp sensor before you go changing exhaust, lambda and cat respectively like I did.

Even at that I barely passed, the trick I find is try get a late night test and redden it before hand. Cooled down FTOs are a big no no.

In relation to the allowed lambda limits:

Lambda 1.12 (should be between 0.97 and 1.03)

I would have thought this reading of 1.12 is very high?
I would try ect, then lambda sensor
