Wanted: Recaro adaptor rails

Postby Bernard » Fri Feb 19, 2010 10:50 pm

Chancing my arm here but I don't suppose anyone has a set for sale?
I contacted auction-tokyo about getting a set in from Japan but it's working out very expensive.
From what I can gather there are two types that (probably) do the job, these & these.
I was quoted £300 to get a set of the first type delivered, that's £100 for the rails and £200 between fees & postage!

The proper rails would be a neater job but at that price I'm inclined towards getting some kind of bracket made up instead.

Here's a pic of the seats,

I'm not 100% but I found this: http://www.cat.nildram.co.uk/files/Subframes/
There's a PDF with drawings of the frame.

Cheers by the way, any help would be appreciated. It's a shame having the seats sitting there doing nothing.

Here's a pic of the underside.

These brackets attach to the rails, I wonder if something similar would work to fit them to the FTO instead of fabricating a whole subframe?

I imagine that making brackets would be a lot cheaper than the outrageous shipping costs that company are charging. The PDF is a pretty detailed fabrication manual, so it should hopefully fit the FTO. If the addititon of brackets would fit though then it would be a lot easier, cheaper, and possibly a safer option.

There pretty good instruction alrite id say i could work from whats there,
The recaro seats would be fixed onto this frame and then bolt directly to the floor thats rite?

Id nearly want to have the car and seats to make up a special bracket.

Maybe someone local could do this for easily enough

Maybe I'm missing something here, but how difficult would it be to mount Recaros on the original FTO rails?

I took my seat out and had a look at the underside, the FTO rails are completely different.
I'm sure it could be done but any way you look at it some fabrication would be needed.

I got them for €400.
They came out of an Evo9 with only 30,000KM on the clock, this one.

Different measurements and all. Look very close but out by about 15-30mm. Even my rails are a totally different set up to the standard FTO rails.

They look great - stock in fact.

How do you find them compared to the standard seats? A tight fit no doubt!

The seats or me in them?
No matter, the answer to both is Yes

I only got the car back last night and spent the better part of today swapping belt buckles from the old seats.
Tomorrow will be the real test but initial reactions are good, they're very supportive.
There's a little less headroom but it's liveable (just).

Very tasty indeed - great mod - I'm not really a fan of the OE FTO seats - those Recaros are a fantasic improvement.
