More bizarre insurance company stuff

That time of the year, hunting for a renewal. Got a quote just short of 1300 from AA (Axa) for my renewal, rang them, they brought it down about 25 euro as a token gesture as I asked. Walked into McCarthy Insurance brokers today, they gave me a quote for 744 euro with guess who - Axa!

Think I'll just ask Axa directly tomorrow, see if they give me any better offer.

Axa do quotes on-line did you try that? Quotes on-line are normally(supposedly) cheaper by 10-15%. Also there is a place up in Donegal called Britton 074 9721304 and a guy in town (Dublin) Mike Murphy 01-2932370 that are supposed to be cheap you could try ringing them.
Did you try Chill.ie? You can get quotes from most of the companies by filling out one form on Chill.ie. Its a comparison website works like comparethemarket.com. I'm only suggesting it because its new and maybe you haven't heard/thought of it. Not too sure how good it is though, in my case they were more expensive than going through quinn themselves.

That's mad Seb, I insured the escort with them before I bought the FTO because they gave me the best FTO quote.
I stayed with them too because they beat everyone... just goes to show it's a lottery.

Online Axa quotes have the condition that the car was originally registered in Ireland or the UK, so the jap import doesn't match. Will try Britton though, been meaning to give them a shout.

Hadn't come across Chill, thanks for that. Gave them a go and gave me 3 options, all about the 1000 euro mark.

I thought legally they had to insure your new car if you were with them already - they can quote you ridiculous premiums but thought they had to.

Just put my details into Britton web site. Got a quote for €477. Currently with 123.ie (Travelers) at over €800. Guess where I'll be heading for renewal in October..?? :)

Strange, they said they could not offer me insurance at this time and would send me an email if they decided to after reviewing my details.

Should have guessed that, most of them say that and normally after you've gone through the hassle of filling out the form. I think there is another comparison website called nononsense.ie you could try them as well.

They got me a quote through Quinn for around the €1000 mark but going to quinn themselves it was around €650. (I paid €540 on a gs, was covered for 3-4 months and paid €80 extra for the remainder of the year on a GPX). You can haggle with them because the girl on the phone asked me was it my best quote, when I said no she was willing to try bring it down. When I asked if she could beat €650 she said that they can reduce them a little but not by €350. Not sure if they will beat it for you but worth a try.

Thats strange I got a couple of quotes off them over the years on the GS and got one this year on the GPX. Bit weird that they will insure some and not others.
It is mad how they come up with premiums. I got chatting to a girl about the GS when I first got it, she was looking for a Colt. So I told her to try Merlin auctions because a mates dad picked her up one for next to nothing only days before. She was delighted at the prospect of saving a few quid and in return said, "lets see if we can save you a few quid on your insurance". Instead of putting my job in as an electrician she put it down as an administrator, cant remember how much I saved but it was a few hundred. Apparently certain jobs get loaded because of working hours or in my case the possibility of carrying tools. Its a joke really.

Good stuff thats a nice drop.

Just goes to show how random it is.

Job matters cause of tools, and if you're going to be bringing your car to a building site more chance of something backing into it or some damage being caused some way.
I think being a cop as well is a high risk one, prob cause of the fact that some people would try to damage a cops personal car cause of vengence or just attitude or some other reason.

After going in to take the 744 quote they discovered it wasn't marked as a jap import, so quote immediately jumped up to about the 1000 mark. AA were expensive but all the rest ended up about the same, but the only company I was getting quotes from was Axa whether it was direct or via brokers. So much for competition in the insurance industry!

While I was in the broker, the girl I was dealing with told me about someone an employee of an insurance company who came in to her, and got a cheaper quote through the broker then the company would give her directly! :o Weren't companies usually run by people who actually had an ounce of cop on once upon a time, or did I just not know any better at the time?

got a letter off AA the other day "guaranteeing" to beat my next renewal and apologising for not being able to meet my needs the last time? eh... ok AA. Tehy told me 3 months ago they don't insure the FTO.
