Folks,
Getting married next year, so the only job that has been assigned to me is the booking of the wedding car...

Now, what I'd ideally want is something that I could drive myself, but would also look at a chauffeur driven as well.

Anyone know anyone in the trade, or could recommend someone? If going chauffeur, I'd ideally like something like a Maserati Gran Turismo or something like that....

I've booked wedding cars through Hertz before (have a mate there) - you can have your pick from the Range Rover, Merc and BMW stables all on new plates. Better than a chilly vintage Rolls or God forbid those tacky ass stretch limo's. Plus you get to drive them yourself for a few days which is nicer than the one off trip to/from the church.

I really wanted something different, hence not looking at any of the above BMW's, Merc's or Audi (bar an R8), what kind of machines did you get Shane?

I looked into a classic Ferrari, 328 for example, but again, they are few and far between and not really what I'm after!

Not for my wedding - but I picked up a Range Rover Sport and a BMW 5 series for a mates wedding over a long weekend.
I know they also have BMW X5's and Jaguar XF's - all brand new cars. Its a lot cheaper than you might think.

No point in going the classic performance route in Ireland - it just wouldn't compare to the UK market where you can rent practically anything. I'm pretty sure that Ferrari 348 you can rent off some crew in Dublin (although they advertise pics of an Enzo ) wouldn't even compare to the supercharged Zed we owned.

I just checked online there, they do a lotus Evora, but only in the UK and mainland Europe!! Shame really, I would have settled for that!

There is a crowd in the north that rent pretty much everything, but it's a serious pain to go to the north and then make sure it's brought back after a wedding would be a pain!!

Speaking of the Zed, that was in the back of my mind, I'd get something like a 355 (380bhp), but it just wouldn't be as good as the Zed was! Ah sure, I'll keep the hunt going, we do insure a guy that has a McLaren SLR, but I somehow doubt he'll give me a lend of it!

Yeah, it'd be predominantly for me!!! I'm checking out a phantom for the bride and stuff, I'm really not into the vintage scene at all!

We did find somewhere that did a Masser..cant for the life of me think of where it was though... Ill ask the missus, she might still have the details..

Thinking of not bothering with a wedding car now, where we're getting married is literally a 2 minute drive from church to venue, so it might be over kill to spend 500 for someone to drive us less than 5 miles all in!!!

Same here - it was a serious consideration. You get a few bottles of vino for 500e (*)
In the end we went for a car as the practicalities just didn't work without the extra car - but we did have a load of guests that required lifts..

If you can get a lend of a nice car with room for a dress I'd say it's definately worth considering..

(*) are sourcing your own vino or going through the venue?

The wine is built into the price, we effectively paid an extra euro for it per person! (some hard bargaining!!!)

But we're bringing in our own champagne for the toast, getting it in France more than likely, have a sister over there and a couple of relations go back and forth quite regularly!

I'm more or less decided on the car front, I might be upgrading to something decent in the new year so that could be used for bridesmaids and the old man has a nice motor which we could just have someone drive us....can easily spend that 500 savings elsewhere!!

On a separate but related note, it is scary how expensive a wedding can be, apart from the hotel, the other parts such as band/dj/photographer/videographer ect seem to be recession proof considering some of the prices we've been quoted!

Good man yourself, that's a great price for wine...and very handy for champers

We found that Bands in particular was difficult to find a proper good band for decent money.. In the end we found a band we both liked, it was even an option to have them doing the dj'ing..In the end we got another lad in to do the tunes...I believe it was money well spent.. peeps seemed to enjoy themselves anyways..

Musical tastes are so individual - crash a few weddings if you haven't already booked..

Oh for video I'd recommend David Stokes - great guy.. on the day you wont notice him (which is what you want) and he gets some great video..I was very impressed with his work.

Have met him a couple of times since at other weddings - he's busy, cause he's good

Yeah, spoke to Mark, but again, Jen went off and got someone else without even consulting me, I was literally only given one job to do, which was the wedding car and it now looks like we're not getting one!! Looks like I could have gotten off lightly!! (Might just have jinxed myself though!!)

There's so much stuff to pick and oranise.. I'm sure Jen will let you do something else for the big day - if you ask nicely

Would make for a good best mans car alright but no way would a bride want to get in it.
