digital aircon from manual aircon?

Postby goz_83 » Sun Apr 29, 2012 12:28 pm

The GX my bro owns has a manual aircon in it and he wants a digital aircon unit, like most of us have. Before I go taking the unit out (yes, it will be me doing it), I wanted to know if it is just a simple plug and play swop, or if there is more involved?

There will certainly be swopping of the air distribuition panel behind the glovebox, installing of a temp sensor and swapping of a loom.
With the dash out it should be pretty easy to see what goes where.

Why bother? - the air con unit and ancillaries in an FTO weights 45kgs + and is sh1t. Better off without IMHO. Less weight and less drag on the engine = better performance and better economy.

Brother prefers it. It's less about performance and more about style. The manual controls are really quite crap looking, especially with the botched custom paint job someone gave it. It'll be a "down the line" job to do.

How easy is it to remove altogether? we live in a cold part of the world after all, if it was simple enough to remove I'd ditch the weight and just have the fan for warm air ( I can open the windows if I want to get cold ) maybe even swap the fan controls and stereo position around if not too complicated so I could see the head unit better to adjust while driving.

not really an answer to your question though I suppose :) sorry
