Tiptronic gearbox diagnostic error codes

Postby CJ » Tue Aug 08, 2006 11:58 am

I've taken some of the more common tiptronic gearboxes codes from the Chassis Workshop manual (Part 1, section 23 - available from the Downloads section of this site) and posted them below:

    Oil temperature sensor - 15
Input shaft speed sensor - 22
Output shaft speed sensor - 23
Low and reverse solenoid valve - 31
Underdrive and reverse solenoid valve - 32
    Second solenoid valve - 33
    Overdrive solenoid valve - 34
    Reduction solenoid valve - 35
    Damper clutch control solenoid valve - 36 and/or 52

Use the diagnostic process listed on ftowa.com (note that engine specific error codes are listed on the site), you can also extract gearbox codes by taking note of the flashing 'N' (neutral) light on the instrument binnacle. The first part of the code is represented by long flashes while the second part is represented by short flashes. For example, if we take error code 23 (Output shaft speed sensor), you would see 2 long flashes followed by 3 short ones. If more than one code is stored in the ECU, they will be flashed out in sequence. Disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes will clear all engine and gearbox codes.
