While I admire his tenacity and the fact he's doing all the work himself, the car looks like a death trap to me. Would have been better off just getting the MR2 built as a track car with better engine, brakes and suspension than going down the road of using 1inch box iron badly welded together - you'd have considerably better protection driving a shopping trolley than that yoke.

Ya, I read the original post, and that was it, I have no interest in that sort of thing, you could spend your money on better things. On par with sticking a body on a 355 imo.

Never really saw the point of kit cars myself, well not the ones made to look like hypercars anyway. An MR2 is still an MR2, and a Peugeot is still a Peugeot, whether its made to look like a Ferrari or not.
Kit cars that you actually make yourself, as in the yoke the Stig drove to Scotland in Top Gear is a different story.

^^ Agreed. A kitcar based on a Lotus 7 like a Tiger or a Robin Hood is one thing but making an MR2 look like a Lambo is more of a glorified bodykit rather than an actual kitcar.
I know there's a serious amount of fabrication involved but it sounds like there's going to be a serious amount of fibregalss and filler!

I honestly can't see the point in not adding to the structure/rigidity of the car, he says he's only going to drive it the odd Sunday but it would be a shame to spend that amount of time/money/effort and not be able to show off your handy work!

I reckon he should've gone for a V6'd MR2 (á la TwoBrutal) at least, still obviously wouldn't sound anywhere as good as the original though.

Not taking away from the considerable skill it takes, just not my cup of tea. Still be interested in seeing the finished article all the same.
Get out of here Nebulon! No one likes your style...

Fair play I say.
Anyone who has used fake carbon fibre, or even stuck real carbon fibre on top of something is guilty of the same sin.
Sometimes its fun to make something that looks more expensive than it is!

Doesn't bother me in the slightest. Most people will never know the difference, and its something he's building himself.

Eh - I'll have to stop you there Colm!
How is using a CF wrap for cosmetic reasons on a car anything like building a deathtrap kit car?
You won't change the structural integrity or compromise the handling of an FTO by adding a CF wrap or overlay - nothing wrong IMO (apart from maybe having good taste) with making a run of the mill car look like a Ferrari/Lambo etc as long as its done properly. For me the car in question is downright dangerous and should not be allowed on a public road.

So Octane removed the user - he did something bold..

Friend of mine located the same thread over on the mr2 forum - and it's updated recently..
