That's a SEAT Toledo MK1, which itself is based on the MK2 Golf. NCAP any 90's car (including the FTO) and that's generally what you get.
Other cars sold in China include the Citroen ZX, (Shenglong Fukang) which has sprouted a rather fetching (?) boot
The Audi 100 is huge over there (literally)
As far as I know, they still make the MK2 Jetta over there, only with a 90's Passat front end: Nice!
These are all built under license and are above board. What I find more interesting are the blatant copies that Chinese companies build without license. Copyright laws in China are virtually non existant so you get the likes of:
The UFO, a Rav4 with no connection to Toyota.
A car made by Geely called the Merine, which shares only shoddy build quality with the real C Class.
It's a subject I find fascinating. The funny thing is that all the major players want to get into China for manufacturing so haven't really got their claws out to challenge these cars. There are many more cars out there that are a lot funnier.
If they were to copy the FTO, I'd probably buy one!
