Import Duties

Postby steelroe » Fri Feb 18, 2011 12:51 pm

Can anyone on here tell me how duty is calculated on say a package coming from the US.
I buy parts all the time but the US is by far the cheapest.

I think its calculated on the invoice price less delivery charges, in much the same way as japanese import cars.

Some good info here:

I'd check it out cause I know that if you buy something while you're in the states and you bring it into Ireland with you, then they will try to charge you VAT on the value of the item in Ireland, not the value that you bought it for.

Good site here with calculator.http://www.dutycalculator.com/new-impor ... ls/219444/

Apparenlty you pay duty on value of goods plus value of transport and insurance. Then you pay vat on the total.
