A5 Matt black 2010

Postby Kace » Sun Oct 03, 2010 5:40 pm

Was admiring an Audi A5 2010 today with factory matt black finish, real carbon fibre roof, door handles, mirrors, 19 or 20 inch alloys. Beautiful looking machine. It did happen to be a diesel which of course lets it down for me, but fantastically finished machine.

Wonder how much those extras set the guy back !

What's your reasoning behind that. From the economy side of it yeah I'd totally agree with ya, but performance wise  I don't think so.
I cringe when I see a fella get into a nicely modified car and starts it up and all ya hear is a transit under the bonnet.
I don't think they could ever go hand in hand.

i used to think the same.but Diesel's have come a long way. you get a 08 skoda octavia rs tdi 170bhp.remap it to 210bhp easy, and it would beat alot of the v-tec, mivec car away on speed and handling, sorry i love my fto's as much as the next but its true. even an 1.4 tsi golf 170bhp would have the fto on a track.

Yeah, but the vast majority have to have a turbo and be remapped as you said to compete with a standard engine like an ftoor any other decent spec motor

You can't really go wrong with a diesel either. Better mileage, more torque, they don't sound as bad as they used to, pick up is really good, easy to remap, cheap to run. I'd take a 3.0tdi S5 any day.

+1

I'm happy out in my Vectra..chugging along..
getting about 600miles to 60liters of the finest smelly diesel from Applegreen..

Sure it's no FTO, but I'm comfy..and I'm still overtaking the ninnybags plodding along at 60kmph in places where it's safe and legal to do 100kmph..

I was seriously jealous talking to the guy alright - the factory carbon fibre really finished it off beautifully too. He was quite a young guy too to add insult to injury

I guess you haven't tried out any modern performance diesels - I brought in a 2008 320d msport from the UK - 224bhp & 335lb/ft courtesy of Joe Power. Msport handling, rwd, sweet looks for a saloon and plenty of power - all that and 44mpg - that's 850km per tank and a fill every 16 days. Oh yea, and it's only 156 a year to tax

As an all around package and daily driver it's hard to beat - next car will be a 335d or A5 3.0tdi quattro -

Petrol is for the weekends only now.

Funny you should say that, I've been throwing my eye at E90 335d's in the UK, they're still big money for 08+ models, it wouldn't make sense to go for an earlier model from a tax perspective. I've also been looking at Audi's, they're not much there that interests me within budget (apart from the A4 2.7tdi, handling is mooted as being questionable thought..).

Yea, the 335d seems a great option - potential for 300+bhp, 450+ft/lb torque and diesel economy.

The only concern I'd have is the rwd - I'm only putting out 224bhp with 330ft/lb and I have problems with traction in the wet - 3rd gear wheelspin when accelerating hard. I think 335d power needs 4wd which is why I'd consider the A5.

If the 2.7tdi in the A4 is the same as th unit that came out in the A5 the it's 170bhp - the E90 320d gives you that with the bonus of decent handling ;) if you're seriously looking at E90's and want to take a closer look give a shout

Stewy theres a fella working with me, driving a Vw mk5 1.9tDI van, on 19inch alloys.
engine is running 222bhp and 370 lb/ft
0-60 in under 5 seconds
stay side by side with an evo until 4 gear, then he overtakes said evo. until about 130mph, then said evo would overtake him again.
And may i ad he still gets 40mpg?
And the thing only cost him 5k and is still running strong at over 200,000 miles.

Whats he done to it to be getting 222bhp out of an engine that normally puts out around 130bhp?

Stage 2 Turbo, Front Mount Intercooler, miltek exhaust system, remap (many tries to get the most torque)..

He also upgraded to Gti brakes...costs about 4K all in to do it yourself

His words over IM "2003 Golf van PD130, Turbodynamics stage 2 hybrid turbo(VW motorsport), uprated sach race clutch,FMIC, full miltek, Chipped IRE remapped (221bhp) And 387 lb ft "

Edited to add torque figures

On the petrol side of the coin...You could buy an evo 5 for 5k and pump 4k into as your mate with the golf and get silly power and torque figures. A mate of mine had an evo 8 with an uprated turbo, uprated intercooler and ecu....aftermarket parts worth about 1500 euro...pushed the power to 410bhp and 450lb/ft of torque...180 mph car
