horrible crunching sound coming from wheel.

Postby paul2508 » Fri May 20, 2011 7:01 pm

only started couple days ago. any time i brake i can hear it coming from the drivers wheel also when i pull off. a bought new cv joints awhile ago as i needed them but never got to fitting them(stupid me). would these be the cause of the noise and that they are getting worse. its only when i press the brake then it goes and when i pull off.

any ideas?? :(

God, I wouldn't associate crunching with cv joints, more a knocking noise. Sounds like a seized calliper to me... That the pad may be sticking to the disk.

Is the noise constant or does it get faster as you accelerate? I was going to ask you did you fit new pads as well.
This happened me a about a month back but was more a squeak than crunching. It was the pads fitted wrong. One was grinding against the disk as it was wearing unevenly.
I just took it off ground it down evenly and was perfect then.

That noise is etched into my memory for ever. :x

No quick check I'm afraid. How old are your disks?

If one of your calipers are sticking your alloy will feel hot to touch after driving

does be pretty hot actually after driving because i keep Checkin after drivin. Noise only happens soon as i pull off them goes away they It happens as soon as i press the brake pedal then goes away. Discs are old . Mean to buy new discs. Probably expensive for ap racing calipers to be done. Think Murraymotorsport does ap products, must check if they can order piston seal repair kit.

If the piston is sticking in the caliper then all you need is the seal repair kit
