Tesco.ie Insurance - FTO's blacklisted!!

Postby IrishPhoenix » Wed May 31, 2006 11:43 am

I just tried to get an online quote with http://www.tesco.ie/finance/carinsuranc ... quote.html.

As usual, I put in the automatic gx and went ahead and it said 'declined' as this type of car not covered and that I will have to call them to see. I think its run through Hibernian so it's no wonder. I think there should be some kind of car discrimination complaints board :)

So I tried a 2000 150 BHP Golf GTI and got a quote for £753 euros fully comp! Where's the sense in that?

IP freely
You know, somebody actually complimented me on my driving today. They left a little note on the windscreen, it said 'Parking Fine'.

Eh...What kinda money was that again? Don't think we have £-Euros ;-)

I think these companies are under the misconception that the FTO is a sports car and the Golf GTI is a sensible car.

Granted Golf are more sensible than the FTO but if you want to drive like a loony-bin you're just as well off in either..

Rang em today and they'll quote you if you've got 3 years no claims or more or else have the ignition done with hibernian.
Incidently you cant do the ignition in the FTO.

Seeing as I have only 2 years no claims I didnt get a quote

St. pauls

Postby karlf » Thu Sep 28, 2006 10:40 pm

Just a heads up about st. pauls, as i couldn't get insured on my fto til this year , my mam was insured on it with st. pauls last year. I was driving it and was stopped at a check point for tax and insurance, and the guard warned me that they were under investigation. Apparently it was set up by travellers to avoid paying insurance. Dont know how true it is but I'd be weary if I was your

I eventually went with axa as they matched the quote and I got all the extras to boot. Axa have been around years and for convenience having the office in the city helped too. But ineteresting statement from the Garda... :? Wonder how much of that is true

That sounds like complete frolicks - the company is called St Pauls Travellers. This doesn't mean it was set up for travellers

This is the main company in Ireland for insuring real performance vehicles - i.e. Lambos, Ferraris and not Hiaces 8)

Swear to god it happened last year, just before i came to the main roundabout at liffey valley. I only had a letter from the broker to say that the car was covered with them(st pauls as we switched from hibernian coz it was 1/2 the price) Maybe he was taking the piss so but it did happen, didn't look into it as my mam has never even sat in the car never mind drive it. She was only insured on it because my own policy let me drive any other car TP. Wish I had checked it now as I wouldn't look like a mug. Sorry guys I'm obviously very gullable if I believed him. Guess thats another reason to add to the many I already have for disliking the boys in blue.

SOundfs to me that they've pulled the model list from their UK system but in typical Irish form have decided that they would rather cover Fiestas and Astras
