The reason for posting was to make comparisons between prices now and then. At the time we were suspicisous of cars going for €4k when the standard price was €7 or 8k.

The same could be said of many models taking into account depreciation accelerated by the reccesion. I think the extortinate prices for insurance on an fto and similar cars has led to a sharp fall in residual values in Eire. :)

The issue of high insurance premiums on FTOs down south isn't a new thing, its been like that for as long as I can remember (the FTO is one of those cars that attracts a higher loading than other JDM marques in the same bracket). We also pay more road tax (€614 p.a.) than NI or the UK which is off putting at a time when new cars in lower emission bands are considerably cheaper to tax. Economic conditions are pushing down the cost of all second hand cars, the FTO is no different. Add in less disposal income and a smattering of depreciation and you get low prices.

Just before I bought mine I looked at one that was for sale in Cork, facelift with GPvR spoiler. Rang the number and got told the car was for sale for €11,500 and that he had an offer of 11K on it. That was August 2006.
As it was I brought mine in for about €8,000 including VRT, and was well chuffed with that! Amazing how things have changed in 3 years.

Speaking of depreciation, here's another blast from the past. http://www.fto-ireland.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=406

BTW CJ, when did "Ciaran" turn into "CJ"?

Yeah, no internet (broadband or otherwise) at home and very limited at work back then.
Kinda made up for it though
