Trimming URLs

Some of you may have noticed that if you put a long URL into a post, it widens the windo to the extent that you need to scrool right to see the remainder of the thread. In order to overcome this, consider using www.tinyurl.com to greatly reduce down the URL. Tinyurl obfuscates the link and create a much shorter version, heres an example:

http://search.autotrader.ie/cgi-bin/search?locale=atie.CARS.1&country=IE&orderby=
neg_price¤cy=GBP&make_id_EQI=Mitsubishi&model_EQS=FTO&specified_price_GT=
0&specified_price_LT=0&county_list=1_2_8_9_17_27&x=28&y=3

When the above string is entered into Tinyurl, the following is created:

http://tinyurl.com/78ohs

Now isn't that much easier on the eye!


Another option it to use 'URL' tags to hide a link behind a word or phrase, this can be acheived by highlightinh the text and clicking on the URL
button on the top right hand side of the screen when creating a message

Heres how you use it:

Click on this [url=www.fto-ireland.com]link[/url]

Basically, you type or copy your URL into the 'url=' field. This then becomes the following when the message is posted:

Click on this link
