Looks like it, the following is taken from the NCT website:

The basic procedure for importing a car is as follows:

Go to customs (Revenue Commissioners) and pay Vehicle Registration Tax (VRT).
Customs will issue a Vehicle Registration Certificate which will reference new Irish registration number.
Get new registration plates fitted.
Go to NCT centre with Vehicle Registration Certificate and have the vehicle input on NCTS database.
The following day a test can be booked for the vehicle by phoning the call centre on 1890 412 413.

Em, an added task....still, you'd HOPE that the vechile you're importing would pass first time.

There are no conversions to be done here like in UK for roadworthiness are there??

None that I'm aware of. Need to be careful though if the exhaust is non-standard. Make sure there's a cat or else you'll have trouble getting it to pass on emissions. McNamaras on Nottingham St. can help with a new cat.

Do you need a fog light for the nct? I don't think they come as standard....I could be wrong.

My GR has been through two NCTs and it doesn't have a fog light ( on the rear).

That answers that then.........mine came with one but it didn't work and I spent two hours re-wiring the f*&*ing thing a few weeks ago, and blew half dozen fuses in the process  'cause I thought I'd need it for the NCT - lol - Anyway I'm sure I learned something while I was doing it :? .

Sounds like you learned 'the hard way' ;)
Not that thats a bad thing, most of the car knowledge I've picked up was learnt in the same fashion...
