Aftermarket downpipes

After reading this thread on the FTOOC forum about fitting performance downpipes, it got me thinking about my next potential mod When it comes to power gains on the FTO, I'm always very sceptical about unproven stats, however, there appears to be an opinion that you could release up to 18bhp and a fair bit of torque on the basis that you already have stage 1 mods such as a performance exhaust and induction kit. Again, I'm sceptical, shop me the printouts! Check out the picture below, it hows how restrictive the Mitsi downpipes are in comparison to the Camskill ones.

I'll display a little more of my ignorance here... wot are the bits sticking into the bottom of the old downpipe? Nearly look like spark plugs... is that where the lambda sensor is at?

Sounds the job... I'm holding off on any more mods for a while (I'm sure I said that not long before ordering the new leather retrim ), but when I get back doing some again this could be high on the list!

I'd say it could be a worthwhile mod - I know on the golf fitting a less restrictive downpipe and decat/sports cat is supposed to release about 15-20 bhp. I know that's with a turbo'd car but I would have thought the basic principles were the same - better flow = better power/torque (assuming you still have the required amount of back pressure)

You'd be more tempted by an alcantara retrim? Leather for me for now, downpipes later on!

I hear yeh. Should be a lot cheaper than leather as well.

This mod, along with exhaust, decat, CAI, custom manifold and FPR should have a fairly serious impact on performance (in FTO terms anyway). After that, you could sort the fueling, but it would probably start getting expesive at that stage.

I would love to see a gradual dyno report whereby you stick on one bit at a time and then dyno the car, one thing we're lacking in the FTO community is proven results in terms of aftermarket parts.

So I believe, they're relatievly inexpensive so not a big deal in the whole scheme of things.

yet something else we can provide, can't get onto RPW today but i'll price it up, including the FPR and for those of you who like the bling i'll price the ceramic coating as well!

also if anyone knows anyone else with any sort of mitsi looking for downpipes or what not now could be the time.

oh and another thing that might interest you would be the insulator blocks that reduce engine temp and in turn increase power....
could be a nice little package!

If I'm reading this right - 1.72New Zealand Dollars to the Euro -
RPW Extractors inc optional ceramic coating = $735NZD or €426
They call them Extractors - I presume this is both manifold and downpipe?

these are the ones for the V6's. i'd have to confirm prices and what not but delivery works out around $150-$160 Aus Dollars
