What? Since when does an insurance company want to know the make/model of the alarm? Find a serial number on the control unit and contact the manufacturer. You might even find the model on the cu

I found out what model mine is, by googling the model of the remote :P
But my remote has died now, and my car is stuck, immobilised :(

Not all, but a couple of insurances have wanted my immobiliser details in the past. You should have had a certificate of installation when the alarm was fitted. It includes things such as model number and make of alarm plus details of the technician or garage who fitted it. Obviously these certificates can be easily lost when the car is sold or may have simply not been issued when the alarm was fitted.

I think all the insurance wants to know is what CAT the alarm/immobiliser is. If you don't have the details anymore, i'm sure a statement from a registered alarm fitter confirming your alarm is CAT 1 (for example) would be satisfactory. Though ask before you go to the trouble. You know what insurances can be like.

Indeed. They ask if the car has an alarm, or immobilizer. I say yes, both...and a tracker too. But how are they to know otherwise?

Not when my 318 was nicked (with the key). Although you could end up in trouble if they did find out, so not really worth it.
