I don't know what the story is here, but at the moment I am insuring the fiance's 96 Ford Escort and she insures my FTO. Through my insurance, I can drive anything. She's the same, but she cannot drive her partner's car, ie her Escort under her insurance. So I add her to my insurance as a named driver and of course being female, it brings mine down further.

The wonders of insurance.

She's getting a company car though, so it looks like I will have to get my own insurance in August of next year. So I don't know if that's too long away but here are the details.....

Current Insurer : Axa
Renewal Date : 3 August 2004
Age : 28
Region : Mullingar
Licence : Full for 11 years
Model : FTO GR 1995 2L
(Insured currently on 96 Ford Escort 1.4)
Cover : Comprehensive
NCB : 4 Years
Claims : None
Current Premium : E1000 (for Escort)

I'd obviously like to put herself on as a named driver as it helps with the cost.

Do I need to mail this?

It is indeed with QD, I had a small tip during the year and the guy involved rang QD with out consulting me (even though i wasnt at fault) so i was dubios as to wheter they would hit me with increased premium becuase of that, But they were fair enough with me, they promised that they wouldnt hike it up and they didnt.

So im happy this weekend :D

Its a decent quote but you should remember that not too long ago i was paying over 4k to insure a 1.5 civic. It was the only way for me to build up a history and a NCB.

UK insurance

if anyone is looking for a UK insurer, i can recommend a company in the midlands (i think?)
called AON. theyare just a broker, but one of the few who will do a decent price on our beloved FTO's (imports)

I pay £900 STG per year, thats 0 NCB, as i have 3 other cars, but is fully Comp etc., anyone with NCB that can be assigned would get it for circa £350-500 STG im told...

Only condition will be it must have certified Thatcham Cat 1 alarm system (with certificate)

can supply contact details if anyone in UK needs em.
:D

Just to keep up to date on insurance cost changes.

I just got mu renewal from Allianz. I'm 42 - 5 year ncb - full licence,- so for the '95 GR fully comp, wife as named driver, with all the trimmings NCB bonus protection, windscreen........... it's €1067, that's down from €1,580 last year......30% drop :D .......... so why do I still feel like I'm beeing screwed :?

JD

ps. (Allianze give unlimited windscreen cover - which is just as well 'cause at around a grand a pop - I have a chip in mine that'll fail my next NCT, I'm going to need one  )

Model\Year: 96 GRTip
Age: 30
License Type: Full 12yrs
Cover Type: Fully Comp
NCB: Full
Insurer: Britton(Broker) ARB Insurer
Policy amount: €1800

I initially got a quote €1500 but after paying that they bumped it up another €300 because I'm self employed. They said something about it needing to be a different class of insurance. Don't know if anybody came accross this before?

Class 1 cover is basically for social domestic and pleasure, this would be standard.
Class 2 and 3 are for cover including using your vehicle in the course of your employment/ profession. Basically the more you use the vehicle (for work), the higher class of cover required, and hence the more you pay!
As you are self employed they probably assume that you use the car in the course of your work. If you are not using the car for work, then I would think there is no need for a higher class cover, and they are spinning a line :!:
Maybe someone here more knowledgeable on the subject can advise :?:

OK, renewal time is here again, heres what QD came back to me with based on the following stats:

Model\Year: 95 GPX
Age: 29
License Type: Full 4yrs
NCB: 2 years

TPF&T: €799
Fully Comp: €1004

I'm pretty happy with these figures, TPF&T is down over 300 quid on last year, FC looks pretty affordable this time around so I'll be taking this option (finally!). While I would relish the chance to change company , I don't feel that the other insurers will come close to these figures.

Price is not everything however! :!:

i know i would personally pay more to be insured with some one other than quinn, that is just personal preference but if something ever did go wrong, Quinn would not be the best insurance company to look after you.

Opinion based of course!

Thouroughly agree Dave (I'm not a fan of QD myself), I'd happily pay an extra few quid (within reason) to go with someone else, I'll be calling your office this morning ;)
