cam slipped a single tooth i think

Postby nairnman » Wed Jan 11, 2012 12:45 pm

i was removing the front valve cover and once all bolts was out i couldnt remove the cover so i levered the cover by sticking flat blade screwdriver between the cam and cover which is when i noticed the belt was loose by doing this so i pushed the belt back on the cam, but wasn't sure if the cam was under tension and may have slipped by a single tooth. is there any way of checking this without turning engine on and checking timing with a strobe light? i dont want piston to valve contact for the sake of a painted valve cover lease help many thanks

You saying the belt slipped off the cam cog?
If it did how did it only slip off one?
