Arachas. No new FTO business + others checked

Range Arachas and 123 today for a couple of quick quotes and neither would quote. I mentioned that a number of my club colleagues had their fto insured with them, but there was no biting. Disappointing, because it leaves very little room for play. I'm 29 with full ncb and full license with no points. QUOTE ME!!!

At 21 or under, I can understand. But at my age and stats, it really makes no sense at all. But we have all seen the many anomolies of the irish insurance industry. You could be 19 and get a 350z insured for 500 quid, or you might be 40 and get no quotes on an fto.

i'm 22 and insured on a fto. trick is to insure a car then simply change over the policy onto the fto.

I'm insured on an fto already. Did it the hard way and almost gave up. I got insured as new business with Quinn (now Liberty) and my renewal is mid August, so I wanted to see if I could get quoted elsewhere just in case.

Considering it was a woman that answered, that's got all kinds of shades of grey weirdness going on...

You say weird. I let my mind take over for a minute and have a sinister looking smile across my face.

was following a tread on boards about a guy trying to get his Subaru Impreza turbo insured, he ended up going with A.R.B, I had never heard of them before, might be worth giving them a call.

Just checked out their website. Looks interesting as they are used to dealing with niche vehicles. Let us know how you get on.

I was insured with them a few years back through a broker.
Not that that makes any difference, every year is different unfortunately... Good quotes one year turn into refusals the next.

Tried them. They don't take calls from the public. I asked what broker they accept...they said arran 014782020. Rang them and got no quote. Car too old and imported. Stupid! What car isn't imported?

tried one direct a week ago. quoted 430 full comp but the girl said she had to check with underwriter and would call me back, but never did. tried again today and no quote. also no quotes from
fbd
zurich
allianz
aon
tesco
quoteme.ie
my renewal with quinn was nearly 900 fully comp. Only dropped to 808 on the phone, or 575 tpft with windscreen, which i think i will do.

The guy said that there is an english spec (1999cc) and a jap import (1990c). The jap import is more expensive because it is higher performance at 9cc less. Can anyone tell me what the fcuk he was shoitin on about? According to him, if i had a british one, the insurance would be halved, because that was the quote I got online. 434 was the online quote when no reg number is entered.

Hes talking about the the officially imported Mitsi UK cars (through Ralliart) - identical to the Jap version apart from exhaust, alarm and foglight additions. On one hand, its interesting to note, on the other its points at the illogical variance in insurers data. Just goes to show the heavy weighting thats applied to Jap imports when determining the premium price.

So it's better to have a uk FTO?

Yes, for the stupid insurance system here. But they are like hens teeth.

If it makes a difference, I might just go looking for some hens teeth. Some chassis and reg switching will sort it out....IF ONLY!

Seriously. That's just crazy. If it passes an nct, its as road worthy as the next fto. If anything, a jap import would be in better working order than a uk model. I am guessing the chassis number is the only way to know the difference? Looking for a de2a number is it?

Yea its a joke of a system.
I stand corrected but i think DE2A refers to the 1.8 model fto.

Yeah i believe your right.

So to continue with my no quote list....

one direct
fbd
zurich
allianz
aon
tesco
quoteme.ie
AA
no nonsense
chill
chartis direct
aviva. Got online quote of 437, when registration was entered. Could not select fto (galant was closest). Rang them direct and they don't quote.
topquote (sent an email with a quote of €2,200 a few days later)
pibasure
lynksey ryan (very helpful lady)
aib (aviva)
britton (pending 24 hours referred, but expect no quotes) (they quoted over 2k a few days later)

I think i will be sticking to my renewal with Liberty of €575 tpft with w/screen cover. In all cases above...the words fto, or jap import were the downfall.

Axa will quote you if over 30. Aviva will quote if your fto is british model. Liberty will quote online if you neglect to enter the reg number, but you won't be insured, because the assumption is that the car is not an import from japan. The joke continues.

I am about to insure my car, I got a quote a while back online using Liberty, but as Goz said I would not really be insured as I didnt tell them its a Jap import and when I tried yesterday it wouldn't quote. Having this tread is good as I know now not to bother calling anyone looking for new business, I tried to swap over my policy from my Civic to the FTO with XS direct but was told they wont do it because the car is over 10 years old and is worth under €5000, so now I am thinking should I cancel my policy with XS and lose my no claims bonus which is due in October, If I do this then I can insure my Civic with the likes of Liberty and transfer over to the FTO (how long should I wait before transferring over?) or I stick it out until October, get my NCB and then try to get a new policy.

If I am transferring over what company seem to be easiest?

Àviva I would say. If you have 5 years ncb, then I would cancel, as any more makes little difference. Or value your car at 10k to get through the loop :)

I first got insured on my fto with quinn by removing the import part, but i changed fto within a very short period of time. i will send you a pm, as i don't think i should post the rest publicly.
