Quinn Direct - no new business for FTO

Just been on to quinn direct to change my insurance onto the GR (which I'm heading to collect now). They told me that the will not accept any new business for the FTO - so if you don't already have a policy on an FTO with them they won't quote you. Luckily I had the insurance on the GS and it cost nothing to change to the GR.

For future reference anyone know of any other insurance companies/brokers that insure the FTO cause my insurance is up in August and I'd like to shop around.

I'm ok for insurance for the time being - I had a policy for the FTO GS and just transferred it over to the GR. They just won't quote new business for the FTO.

I'm just looking for a list of insurance companies/brokers so I can shop around when mine comes up for renewal in August.

Btw, I'm 29 with 4 yrs NCB (this august) but have 1 year left to run on an outstanding claim so I'm paying 3100 TPFT only!!!!

i've just joined the forum so first off, hello all...

on the quinn insurance thing, i got the "no new fto business" speel from quinns. i tried again the next day though and got 3rd party fire & theft! - sterling £530. half of what fully comp was costing me. god knows what was going on there...

Right, I think this situation with QD not taking new business from FTO owners is a bit of a myth. A mate who is in the process of buying a GPX couldn't get insured thru his existing company (Hibernian), Allianz gave him the 'we don't insure Jap imports line' (which is not true) so he called QD and got a quote of €1053 TPFT/€1500 Comp (28yrs, 0 yrs NCB, 6yrs named, full licence 6 yrs). I checked their online quote system and got the same prices back.

I just tried it and it wouldn't give me a quote. I'll try it again at lunch. (28 yrs 4NCB)

Ivan, would you mind going thru the form and note down the options you've selected? Heres what I put in and got out:

DOB: 1975, Occupation: Computer Industry, Irish, County: Dublin 15

Car: FTO (IMP) 3dr Petrol 1994-> (1990cc)
Value: €6.5k, Owned: 0 yrs, Milage: 15k, Alarm: yes, Modified: none
Parking day: Employers car park, Parking night: Driveway

Married, full Irish licence - 3yrs

Type of cover: Class1, NCB: 0yrs, no protection, 5yrs named driver exp.

TPFT quote: €1120
Comp. quote: €1557

Obviously, one or other of the options you've selected is taking you out of the picture, try playing around with NCB, named driver years and licence held years to see if there is any difference.

I recently got a quote of them as well. The problem is if you get quote online, it will give you one, but if you phone them up they will refuse it. The way I got around it is that I told them that I bought my car based on the quote they gave me online, and because of the law in Ireland, they are obliged to commit to it. Mind you, after all the grief I gave them, they've probably updated their website by now...

Ok, this is feck up. Most of my details are very similar, 28 yrs, 4 ncb, 11 yrs full licence. However there is one major difference that I did this time around.

I own my own house in Dublin, but I am originally from Mullingar and I use my address there (parent's house) on most things like bank accounts etc as I suppose I still regard that as my permanent address. But I also use it for insurance as ultimately its cheaper.

So this time I use my Dublin address instead of my Mullingar address and I get a quote of 973.49 for TPFT and 1287 for comp.

Work that one out.

It seems to be the policy of Quinn Direct to be completly random in their quotes. If you phone up for a quote and do not get one, just keep phoning... eventually you'll get a someone who'll quote you.
Also, speaking of f*** ups, when I eventually got my insurance with them, the phoned me up to confirm the made of car as "Bristol Beaufighter"!! Not bad at €1500 for a 6L V8!
