this sounds very very good... I think they are afraid of losing alot of people to switches... It's going to be competitive next year. thats for sure. they have been fined 3.2 million (well sean has) by the Irish govt, and that won't come form losing policy holders :)

some cheek on him though. buying 600million euro worth of shares in an Irish bank covered by the guarantee scheme. they are worth less than 100million now though. huge loss for him. maybe he wa shoping the bank would collapse and he would be reimbursed?

I can confirm this is not the case, the renewal for the VR-4 came in last week (comp, full NCB, me + Mrs.CJ) slightly down on last year @ 750 euro. I got a quote of 557 euro off Hibernian (thru bestquote.ie), Quinn flatly refused to match it (their policy) I'll be cancelling my policy later on today and taking my 6 years worth of loyal custom to another company (as will Mrs. CJ when her policy expires). I'm delighted to be away from them to be honest and the 200 quid saving is nice too!

thats great news CJ... I hope I have similar experience in March 09. I would feel more comfortable being with one of the other big insurers. The claim I did have to make with quinn involved alot of haggling to get my bumper replaced properly.

I rang them up a few weeks ago to temporarily transfer insurance onto an FTO I was thinking of buying the dialogue went like this:

me: I want to do a temporary change of vehicle
qd: no problem sir, can I have the make and model of the vehicle:
me: It's a Mitsubishi FTO 2.0.....
qd: Can you hold please?
Hold music.....
qd: I'm sorry we don't cover that type of vehicle.
me: it's the exact same as the car I have on cover with you, and the one I had before that.
qd: yes but we don't cover FTOs
me: but I have a policy covering my FTO
qd: Yes sir, I understand, but we don't do FTOs.
me: but that makes no sense, I already have an FTO, I just need you to change the particulars for a few hours
qd: We don't cover Ftos
me: right, do I have third party cover to drive cars that aren't mine?
qd: yes your policy has that.
me: ok - bye.

Colm if I were you I would get onto them again and ask for the department manager, then if you get no where get a name and straight onto the insurance ombudsman. Sooner or later they will have to answer for the attitude if nothing else

to be honest, I shopped around when I got the second FTO, and they were the only company to give me a decent quote. If I was permenantly changing car I'd have gone through the proper channels, but for a temporary change it wasn't worth the hassle. Will have some craic next year when I renew - it's the most stressful thing imaginable having a car you love and not knowing if you can keep it, all because Quinn is organised the way it is.

32 M, EU citizen, full EU license since 14 years, never had penalty points, 1 year NCB in Ireland (Italian NCB was not valid as I previously had a car open driving policy on my father's name).

6 weeks ago, for a comprehensive policy with windscreen cover:

AIB-Hibernian (my previous insurer) asked for ca. 3500/year
123.ie refused to give me a quote
Quinn 1339€ - I went for them.

It's fcuking crazy the way quinn has a monopoly over all of us. Other brokers would be minted if they allowed us to change to them.

I would have no problem being insured with them if I was certain they were going to absolutely screw me over if god forbid anything were to happen. I'd actually be willing to pay a somewhat higher premium for that peace of mind with a better insurer.

Really don't get this, and it must be very frustrating with these variations.
I'm on the lucky side this time it seems. My QD policy is up for renewal in Jan, so got the renewal quote in the post last week.
I'm 26, 6 years NCB. TPFT with protected NCB... €680.

Got my QD renewal today, worried when I saw it, but its down by E40, down to E700 now, (only 3 yrs NCB).
I did wonder from the form though how others cant get insured with them, cause written in capitals as type of car is MITSUBISHI-FTO GPX MI-VEC. Cant really get more clearer than that what it is so how do they not quote everyone on it cause it must be coming up on their system.

I'd still ring around if I were you.
Even if you only matched it, it would be an excuse to move from Quinn.
