Mitsi EVO 8

300BHP from a car that has the road tax of a 2 litre and none of the major servicing concerns of a Cerbera, 911 etc... I love them, but are a bit basic inside etc. What do people think?

To drive - fantastic.
To look at - erm! - next question!

I'd still buy one but it while you're looking at one you might as well pick up a full fat 300bhp + Evo rather than the 260 if only for the additional body and chassis mods.

They don't have the sleek sports car lines that you seem to be looking for but what a drive! I took an FQ320 out for a spin a few months back, its a very quick car with plenty of practicality built in. Its slightly quicker than the RX-7 to 60 (4.8sec vs 5.1sec) and there is plenty of power to play with right thru the range. Twinned with 4WD, its an excellent package assuming that you're not all that pushed about looks (that said, an EVO 8 has plenty of road presence).

I'd go for the FQ320 or 340 in black and throw on a set of black rims - stealthy!

Jesus, I didn't know the Rx7 was so close to that performance to 60, impressive. It's still on my list the RX7.... but I is still building that list

I have much respect for the lancer evo, but do not aspire to owning one.
Not suitable for cruising, should be driven with 'spirit' not something you are likely to do with junior onboard. Big running and servicing costs, requires very regular oil and fluid changes, including the oil in the differental -believe this stuff is expensive and not readily available.
Need to change flywheel along with the clutch. looking at a four digit figure for the clutch alone + labour.

What about a nice S4, S6 or a B5 RS4 or RS6?

A friend has an evo9 fq320 in the uk and bought it home for six weeks last june. Had the pleasure of minding it for 2 weeks while he was on a sun holiday. Quite honestly its the most driveable supercar out there for everyday driving ive driven, clutch was grand, recaros were a dream on long journeys, ride hard but ok, standard exhaust is loud enough at higher rpm. 6 speed box was the job.

Very very fast car, and much better looking in the flesh and while moving.
