what fto am i driving arrgh

Postby kira34 » Fri Apr 13, 2012 11:47 pm

Basically i dont know the moddel of my fto i have Because i think it is possibly the gx sport or the gpx its making it hard to find out as the gx sport comes with the gpx specification so the inside is identical so i dont know

all the signs in the engine point out to it being gpx mivec as the oil cap and stuff is on the left and it has the mivec engine cover but yet on the back of the car it says gx and although people are saying you can feel it kick in (the mivec that is) i dont know ...so is there any other way of me finding out

What are you on about?
first .. please don'y use text speak
second...please use some punctuation as it's impossible to read your posts.
third...there is a difference between the gr and the gpx and also between the gs and the gx , a pic with your car /engine plus some info like the year would help identify what model you own.

If it has a mivec engine, it's not a gx.

Perhaps the P letter is missing from the decal on the boot and it says G X instead of GX?
Maybe the boot was replaced?

My guess is a GX with an engine transplant.
Put your VIN in here to find out.

Who does an engine transplant like that, isn't it more likely that the badge is wrong?

I would if the engine in my GX gave up.
What's the best (original) FTO engine?

If it has a GPX (Mivec) engine, then I say it's a GPX, even if it was originally a GX. It's not not like you've put a gpx engine into a colt! That would be crazy and totally unheard of

Ok so i did the vin check and it does confirm that the car is gx sport so thanks for that
But when it gets to the section. About the engin it just says unknown so i think im going to just get the car dyno tested and then hopfully maybe this will clear up the issue for me

Where are you based? If you're in Dublin, I would be happy to see if it is a mivec under the hood for you. Only takes a minute on the road behind my house :)

No need for dyno test mate, the differences between the engines are obvious.
Is your engine like the one in the link below?

Hang on a sec, what colour is the car, can you post a pic of the exterior? Colour looks like steel grey, which isn't a GX colour.

What's weird is that there's a MAF beside the airbox, which isn't usually on a GPX.

Wouldn't that make it a likely mivec engine transplant into a GX? The old maf would have been left in place needlessly.

Seems like an engine transplant alright!
Does the car have sideskirts?

Facelift FTOs are rare enough in the UK anyway, how strange :D

Is the MIVEC engaging properly? should be a sharp increase in volume at around 5500 rpm

The fact that it is a transplant, I doubt they would have changed over to the GPX ECU, so the car wouldn't know to engage Mivec if I am correct.
But that is certainly an engine transplant.
