FTO Ireland MEET - June

Ok guys - plenty of notice to sort yourself out - trip to Kerry for June. Some of you guys are living in Kerry and Cork already and may not need accomodation etc so please state pref.

Need some suggestions for dates - the first weekend 4/5/6 has a bank holiday on the Monday but may be very busy - we could go on a weekend either side of this if it suits people better.

Accomodation is €28pps B&B per night for a Guest House/Pub on the pier beside the dive club - some incredible senery down there - bit of a trip for the Dublin crew though - you'd def need a couple of days.

Suggest something along following lines.

Sat morning - Paintball in Tralee - http://www.paintballireland.com

Sat evening drive to Kenmare and get settled in Guesthouse/Pub - meal etc http://bearadiving.com/accom.htm

Sun morning/early afternoon - trial dive http://www.kenmarebaydiving.com

Sun evening - short very senic drive (10-15K's) to tunnel on Kenmare to Glengarriff rd - back to Kenmare for evening.

Monday - Back home.

Costs would be approx as follows - per person -

€60 for B&B for 2 nights
€40 for paintball (though this could increase if you're trigger happy like me and have to buy extra paintballs).
€60 approx for trial dive (incredible value when you consider the gear and dive boat) - this is for rookies - you do not need to be a good swimmer - its a very shallow but senic dive.

If it looks a bit busy - then we could drop one of the activities - we could leave the trial dive as an option for example - not everybody would be comfortable with doing it mostly due to misconceptions they have about how hard it is to dive. But it is well worth doing.
http://bearadiving.com/trydive.htm - (thats me holding the crab)

The GuestHouse/Pub has only got around 6/7 rooms so we would need to book it out completely fairly shortly to stand any chance of keeping the group together - I hope to avoid the need for deposits etc - please state whether you are def going or Provisional - obviously - its first come - first served on the accomadation etc.

What do you think??

I'd be up for this with a view to heading down on the Sat morn (early) and heading back on the Monday. The only problem I have is that I won't be available on the weekends of the 4th\5th and the 18th\19th. I swim like a brick (great for diving as you've said) but I'd be willing to give it a go notheless. Paintball would be good crack (all those wasted years of playing Quake CTF online should come in handy after all!)

As newly appointed Events Organiser for the West & South, MfFTOs doin' a great job, watcha think folks? 8)

Kenmare, this could be the final resting place for my car if the turbo goes bang!!

Karl should be able to manage this seeing that his parents live here.

I should be ok for this.

My recent election didn't seem to be a very democratic process - I for one wouldn't have voted for me.

Well - you'll be close enough to Steelroe for him to take it off your hands.
After I've finished pulling the twin exhaust, leather and Top Mix kit off it of course.

OK-Dokey then: - list so far for weekend of 11th of June.

1: MfFTO + 1
2: CJ + 1
3: Dave + 1
4: Helen + ?

We should try to aim for 8 FTO's on tour. The accomadation and diving will probably limit us to 8 anyway so if you're interested get your name in soon. I'll need to book the Accomodation soonish.

No one else must want to go.
Why is there no other girls on this site?

Steady there Helen! - The meets not on till June.
Its true to say the vast majority of FTO owners are guys - hence the imbalance - but there are also girl posters - its just they don't have the whole "FTO Petrol-Head" thing going on in their head. They may be more balanced individuals than us and may not put their car before that unneccessary kidney transplant operation.

There were as many girls as guys at the last meet (and there where a lot more sober girls than sober guys).

Hey boys and girls,
I guess since i'm from Kenmare i could make the effort this time to get to a meet.

Just on the accomodation side of things, that pub is only about 20 minutes drive from Kenmare itself so if there are space issues i can drop a few names of B&B's for whoever needs them.

For those lucky sods staying in the pub, i've drank there til the wee hours of a lot of mornings and the craic is mighty. Small pub with a big heart.

Karl.

Amended:

1: MfFTO + 1
2: CJ + 1
3: Dave + 1
4: Helen + 1
5. Nigel + 1
6: Karl (no accom)

I'm Presuming you don't need accomadation Karl.
Guys and girls - there are possibly 2 rooms left so you'll need to get in soon if you're going. There are a couple of other B&B's in the area as well but as Karl says the pub is a really good spot - And you won't have far to fall which will probably be an important feature for some of the more hardcore partygoers in the group.

I won't need any accom so myself and the better half will commute. I forgot to mention as well that anybody needing accom in Kenmare, there is a minibus service if needs be.

For those needing convincing to make it to this meet, the name of area where the pub lies is called Killmackilogue (shortened to Killmack). The pub is smack bang in the middle of the rally stage and the road out there from Kenmare is fabulous. My manual GR broke the sound barrier coming out there once.

For those considering a nice leisurly drive some evening while down there, the Healy Pass rally stage starts about 3 miles from there and it's a sight to behold. Ask Dave Reilly and he'll give you all the goss, but whatever he says about the burning smell coming from my brake pads is a lie!!!!!

Karl - Have you been up to that tunnel on the Kenmare - Glengarriff rd??
Good place for a window down blast and only a few minutes from Kenmare.

Yeah, i've been up there a good few times. If you take the Healy Pass road from the pub it brings you out in Glengarrif. Take a left from there and you go through the tunnel after a few miles and straight on back to Kenmare.

It's great though becuase it's what, 200 yards long????. Definitely a window down kind of moment. If the road was quiet it would be really sweet to have everyone stop and gun their engines. The other halves would call it juvenile but we'll get over that.
