Wireless PC to LCD

Postby steelroe » Wed Oct 14, 2009 11:15 pm

I touched on this subject previously but never followed up on it.

I have an older (slow) laptop that is breaking my ass when surfing the net.

I have a high spec desktop in an upstairs office in the house. My question is it possible to wirless connect the PC to my LCD tv so I can surf and work from my living room. Has to be wireless as no cables are installed.
Would prefer to be able to have keyboard control also.

All help suggestions appreciated

Can't be done Rory, only alternative is to connect the laptop to the TV and use a wireless keyboard from the comfort of your couch.

Bit OT, it's not gonna solve your problem, but sounds like you need one of these. Will be interesting to see what price these come out at.

Just a thought but could you not RDP (remote) to your desktop via the laptop and try surfing that way.
There would be less overhead on the laptop and the various web requests would be handled by the pc upstairs and the laptop really only relaying the screen updates.

Worth a shot. I've my pc hooked up to my LCD TV and PS3 with keyboard and works great. Really good clarity from a distance... (As i type this message from the couch! :) )

Something like this might work but if I remember correctly, scart connections aren't great for viewing text.

No keyboard transmission though. VGA - scart \ s-video is pretty horrendous at the best of times, as per ikeane, not worth considering if you want to be able to view text on screen.

It is hard to believe in this modern day that this is not possible. I would have though wireless pc to tv with mouse and keyboard transmission would be posible.
Guess one of these new PC tv's would be an option.

Desktop and laptop hardware has dropped substantially in price in recent times, on that basis, theres not much of a market for such a product. By a cheap second hand laptop (one with a broken screen will do), stick it under your TV and buy a wireless kybd, mouse and a VGA cable. You can use this to either control your PC upstairs or go direct to the internet via wireless.

There are 2.4Ghz keyboard & trackpad/mouse for going between rooms. there are also 5.8Ghz transmitters out there. The hard part is getting them with vga or better connections.

How about a fresh install on the laptop, get it up to speed. It shouldn't have problems when just viewing webpages...
