I find them lock nuts more hastle than their worth.
Mine split in two which was my fault as I put too much pressure on it.
One half was right against the alloy and had to go to 19 garages for them to get it off as the other 18 garages lock nut removers would have made crap of the alloy as it was rightly wedged beside the alloy.

So the moral of the story is not to try and kick off the lock nut with the wheel brace if it's too tight

Haha. You must have been in a right mood. I'm gettin my alloys reburbed anyway. I'm at the NCT centre right now. Call me paranoid but I think they've picked my car for scrutiny. Been here 15 minutes and I'm still not Queued on the system. Maybe it's because I'm 25 minutes early? I drove the crap out of her, nice high revving, 2nd and 3rd gear. Put double dose of redX in.

I did give you the lock nut tool - it was left in the boot - look harder!

I'm guessing the garage might have misplaced it the first time the tires were changed. I had a good look alright.

I'm baffled. Emissions were up 0.03% after all that. Man I'm pissed I have to go back to that kip. So emissions are more or less the same. Assuming I have a decat, it's a simple enough install for a cat I take it? Should I gt a new one, or will a used one be ok?

Gary, waste of time going to the nct with a dcat.
You need to find out whether u have decat or not and go from there.
FTO will never pass the emissons test with decat, its hard enough to get them thru when thay have a cat.
Sorry to say it but waste of time going to retest if you have decat.
You can fill ur car to the brim with redex and it still wouldnt go thru.

Nothing to be baffled about, the problem was obvious from day one regarding emissions and it was pointed out here what it was, you need the cat to pass the NCT!! Sorry to be blunt!
The cat is obvious to see if its there, its got a surface that looks like its weave on it. If its a decat it'll just be a polished pipe, its a simple bolt-on bolt-off job to replace the de-cat with a cat.

The other thing is to try and get there just in time.
There's no point reddening the car on the way to the test only to let it cool again for half an hour.

Out of curiosity, what was the engine temperature when it was tested?

Well that was expected! :o
I told you, you could have my CAT for the retest when you failed the first time and you had plenty of time to have a look under your car ya fruit bat.

My CAT is here for you if you need it.

Serves me right for being lazy and not checking. I had a look when I got home and its a decat pipe I have for sure. The car was left there for a good half hour before they started to test it, so it would have been cold. The emissions are low, considering there is no cat on it, so that's something to be grateful about. I can just borrow my brothers cat from the gr, but thanks for the offer Stewy. I won't be switching back to a decat, as I don't think it is worth the hassle of changing it over, even if it is a bolt on/off job. I'm thinking an induction kit will more than make up for any sound, or power lost from using a standard cat. If anyone knows of a cat for sale in Dublin, i'm interested.

Speaking of cats....one of my cats went missing for a week before Christmas. When she came home, it meant a visit to the vet, because she was obviously hit my a car. Her pelvis was broken and her tail amputated. The €400+ bill was gladly paid to the vets for doing a great job. However, she got out a week ago and hasn't been seen since. Hopefully she returns again and hopefully without injury.

Oh and the Oil temp was 93 degrees when tested.

Got a Cat from Gerry, thanks. Got it installed today. Unfortunately, my Atlas branch has no emissions tester, so I don't know the results, but I am confident it will pass. I may drop up to the finglas branch to get an emissions test. I doubt they will charge if I tell them I got it installed in another branch. €110 in total for the part and fitting. I didn't fit it myself because time is tight and one of the bolts needed to be drilled out. Getting it done for me was well worth it. I think I will stop adding up what I'm spending on the car, as I will probably end up havin a stroke.

Yeah I have a cat now. And the other cat came home a few days ago, unscathed and starving.

Re: NCT Today (PASSED)

So, when the car was finally brought up for testing, the guy had the car in the far lane testing emissions. After 10 minutes, I get nervous. He then backs the car out of the testing area and my heart slows down. I step away from the window for a minute to wait for my name to be called. No such thing. I look back into the testing area and there is my car in another lane...I have a lump in my throat. After 5 minutes (felt like an hour) the guy brings over a colleague. It was looking bad, because this is what happened the last time. A few more minutes and then they bring over a more senior looking guy. Three of them are poking around the engine bay and revving the car. I see red lights on the monitor. I wanted to run out there and see what was wrong. All sorts went through my head. I was thinking it failed, but was it just the cat, or was it something worse causing emissions. So, the main guy came out to me, I was one of the last people waiting. He apologised for such a long delay and said they couldn't find the correct revs with the equipment, as the engine was running smoother than anything he has ever seen. Good I ask.....Very good he says and hands me my PASS cert. Emissions at 0.20%.

The emission results wasn't too bad at all.

Same thing happened to me. Your man had my car for over a half an hour calling everyone over. I like to think they were just admiring it 8).
